Andrea Pirlo's first match in Major League Soccer could come against Toronto FC.The New York Daily News reported Sunday night that New York City FC has inked the Italian midfielder.
Despite having a year left on his contract with Serie A powerhouse Juventus, the 36-year-old World Cup-winner has reportedly agreed to join the MLS expansion outfit. It remains unclear if that means this year or 2016, but the Daily News also spoke with a source who said Pirlo will be available in "a few weeks".
He'll command a salary in the neighbourhood of $6 million annually.
It's believed Pirlo reached out to Toronto FC's Sebastian Giovinco prior to agreeing to join MLS.
Former England international Frank Lampard will join New York City FC next month following the July 8 transfer window.
Toronto FC travels to Yankee Stadium on July 12.
