Dad must pay child support for 3 kids that aren't his: Court rules

The judge who ruled he must pay should put himself in his shoes.

There would he have ruled the same verdict?.

If they are not his child, it is up to the "dad" if he wants to help out. The court should be after the kids' real father.

the question becomes is this in the best interest of the children.

While it is unfair to the man his only option might be to track down the three men who his wife slept with and patition the court to allow him to sue them separately for the support.

At 12, 14, 16 he is emotionally attached to these girls. I do feel sorry for him, believing they were his daughters for such a long time must now be a burden for him now. I don't think the financial issues is as important as his emotional ones.

What a terrible situation! The probably doesn't know who the fathers are. The girls and son must be devastated too.

MONTREAL - A father has been ordered to pay child support to his ex-wife despite results of DNA testing that found three of the four children he helped raise are not biologically his, a Quebec Superior Court ruled.
The man learned the shocking news after he demanded DNA testing when he and his wife of 16 years separated in April 2010.
“Since I learned that I am a broken man,” the father told QMI Agency.
His daughters are aged 12, 14, and 16, and his son is nine. DNA testing revealed the son is his only biological child.
To make matters worse, his ex-wife told him his three daughters were all fathered by different men, he said.
The man said he was aware his wife cheated on him several times, but was floored when he discovered the results.
“I was naive ... I never thought I could not be the father of my children,” he said

Sadly most men love their wife unconditionally and never expect this to happen

but the reality is men are not the only ones who step out on their marriage when to occasion arises.

In this situation the man is pretty well screwed by the fact he did not know. But that raises the question of if he knew that first child was not his would he have tossed her to the curb or felt they could work it out?

Love is perhaps one of the best and worst things we experience in our lives.

They may not have his genes but he is their father....he raised, loved and care for them....
The family is messed up......

Either way, it's no win all around. Just goes to show: if you wanna hang on to your money become celibate.

I have a problem with the ruling. I understand that if a court wants to focus on the welfare of the kids. But, that's social policy, arguably not the domain of the court.

Having said that, there's a legal obligation and a moral obligation.

What I find interesting is that he knew of her infidelity. Another case of how we sometimes see the person we want to see, but not who they really are......

You all forgot to mention how the children feel now. Knowing their mother is a slut and the father didn't want to pay for support.

are the planets aligned or something? I actually agree with bliss....

The man is the father to the kids, biologically or not.

If he can find the real fathers, I mean SHE should be forced to find the real fathers, and they should then pay the support. But until then, he was their father up until the test and should be supporting them now......

Let's turn this around to another POV, now that the court knows that he is not these children's fathers, would they ever give any custodial rights to him over them? Is there now a defacto implication that he is their adopted father?

no

just the one he fathered is my bet

It's well established law in Canada that a man who raises a child, KNOWING that he is not the father is on the hook for child support when the couple separates. It is not well established law that a man who is unknowingly cuckolded must pay child support. I would check the facts in this case. Sometimes the SUN is not all that accurate.

Whther you are the biological father doesn't matter. If you raised them and felt an obligation to them, you're the dad and that obligation doesn't go away if the biological underpinnings, or the wife's infidelity, is changed.
