Well, the subject hits home...
Ten days ago, my step son died. He had been battling cancer for several weeks and we knew it was just a matter of time.
He was a good guy, solid and stable, raised two beautiful successful daughters, and left his affairs in good order.
His mother, my wife, handled it all pretty well, until the day of the funeral, when we went in to see his body lying in the casket. There was NO dignity there... His skin was a pale shade of green and he looked terrible. The fucking funeral directors made his daughters and mother go through this whole ceremony of viewing and visitation and a "closing the casket" ceremony. It was just wretched. The casket should have been closed.
I will not be having a funeral. I have made instructions to my family that when I go, the body is to be harvested for organs and then disposed of the fastest and cheapest way possible. My wife feels the same.
This funeral was just an excuse for the morticians to make money.
If you want to have a ceremony to celebrate my passing, fine, go ahead, but leave my tired old body out of it.
