Die with dignity

They will die without dignity.

President Zuma signed a bill of trying to combat HIV. A person who gets tested and found to be HIV positive would not only get counseling and medication. They would also get a mark in a form of a tattoo near their genital according to the bill signed by the president.

And so, another point on this topic...

If i get cancer or some other terminal disease, I do NOT want chemo, or radiation... I do NOT want a lingering life full of pain and sorrow for my family. I want to die by my own wishes and by my own hand.

My only problem is I don't know how to do that. I'm reluctant to do much searching on the internet, maybe I'll go to the library and do a couple of searches - the Hemlock Society, etc.

I'm in a macabre mood these days... maybe because I recently watched the old movie "On The Beach".
I don't recommend this movie if you are easily depressed.

I can't believe after decades of testing Cancer is getting worse. How are they to die with dignity when the don't have a say on their future.

Canada to see a 40 per cent increase in cancer patients by 2030: report

Let me put a slightly different spin on this. Cancer refers to a cell mutation. These happen all the time, but most mutations are harmless and the cell dies without any issues to the host. Occasionally, the mutation is not harmless, and the cells start to multiply and spread. They form a mass, which is what we call cancer. Some cancers are benign and just sit there, some try to take over the body and need to be removed or controlled, or the host will die.

The primary reason for increases in cancer in the last 100 years is not food, exposure to toxins, or anything else. We just live longer and have better knowledge. As we get older, mutations get more frequent. If we all died at 50, we would see much less cancer than if we all died at 90, simply due to the math. And a lot of deaths that were attributed to other causes we now classify as cancerous. So, when we talk about cancer rates increasing, it is very true, but the primary factors are not what people think.

Sure, lifestyle affects incidents of cell mutation. Stand in a nuclear reactor's fallout (which is basically like standing in sunshine!) and cells mutate. But the primary factors are longevity and diagnoses.

With a great deal of respect, Danolo, I would suggest a lot depends on the circumstances. For example, "terminal" is a statement oncologists use a lot, but we are all terminal. If the cancer doesn't get us, old age, heart disease, or something else will. In some cases (granted a minority) a "terminal" cancer diagnosis can be controlled by treatment (chemo, radiation, etc) and prolong life. The question always is whether that life is worth living. Chemo does nasty things to the body. Been there, done that. Would I rather have had those months of nastiness to now be celebrating another borthday? Yup. If I thought I would have the nastiness the rest of my life, then the answer would have been nope.

Canada is not yet enlightened in the die with dignity movement, but small, gradual steps are being made. Personally, if I was facing such a situation, I'd probably pack up and move to the Netherlands, where it is fully supported, and live out my life there. Or, if you have the right knowledge, take care of the issue yourself. A little education on the InterWebNet will show you how to end a life painlessly, if you have the determination to do so. Of course, if you fail, the law can charge you with attempting suicide!

Dude - On the Beach just may be THE most depressing movie EVER! :Crying2:

As a change of pace, I suggest you watch some kids movies to make you laugh harder than you have in 20 years and lift your spirits. The Madagascar franchise is hilarious, as are the Despicable Me flics. Definitely leaves you with a warm, fuzzy and lighthearted feeling deep in your soul after watching.
