10 outrageously lavish CEO perks

The value of CEO perquisites in the U.S. — goodies like personal use of the corporate jet, cars and drivers, gyms and extra retirement contributions — jumped 8.6 per cent in 2011, the most recent full year of data available, says a recent study by Equilar, an executive compensation data firm. (Visit the firm at equilar.com). CEOs at Fortune 100 companies got a median $248,638 worth of perks.

"Giving out more perks to executives while most employees are struggling with stagnant pay, cuts in benefits and unemployment adds insult to injury," says Jennifer O'Dell, of the Laborers' International Union of North America.

Boards are so generous that perks alone can add up to more than what most people make in a lifetime, points out Stephen Lerner, a former union organizer for the Service Employees International Union. Jeff Bezos atAmazon.com () and Larry Ellison at Oracle (), both multibillionaires, each got more than $1.5 million for home security alone. "It is obscene," says Lerner, who adds, "CEOs are the new royalty."

But this is more than a social issue. Because perks aren't generally linked to performance, they do nothing to motivate execs to create value for shareholders, the supposed purpose of high executive pay. Combined with excessive pay, generous perks can signal poor corporate governance, which can lead to poor stock performance.

Click through this slideshow, for the CEOs who got the biggest perks in several of the categories Equilar studied, ending with the all-around perk king.

My Boss is a real B*tch....I am luck to get Christmas off and if you think she is
even giving out a gift much less money well I may as well beg on the streets...
Oh No I forgot I a the Boss....shit.....:Crying2:

I receive fewer or no lashes when I do a good job

often there is either meat or veggies on my meal tray

occasionally both

He made more in a year perk than I will make in a lifetime :sorry2:

Amazon.com's Jeff Bezos
Perk: $1.6 million for home and personal security
Amazon.com () CEO Jeff Bezos loves to promise 'fast and efficient' delivery, and he comes through. But Bezos does have a growing delivery problem.
In New York City, when some couriers hired by Amazon find no one home, they simply hit all the buzzers in an apartment building until they get in to leave a package. This boorish behavior is a real no-no in New York. It's like pushing all the elevator buttons. And informal surveys show New Yorkers are increasingly peeved.

But Bezos doesn't have to worry about being annoyed at home, and shareholders foot the $1.6 million bill for this peace of mind. So congratulations, Jeff, for outsourcing part of your delivery to an unwilling army of volunteers while getting shareholders to pay for your own domestic peace of mind.
In filings, the company says the costs are 'reasonable in light of Bezos' low salary and the fact that he has never received any stock-based compensation.' His annual salary is $81,840.

But this completely overlooks that he owns 88 million shares of Amazon stock, as founder, worth around $21 billion. So presumably, he could pay his own home-security bill. Instead, he collects the second-highest amount in the home and personal security perk category, says Equilar, just behind the CEO of Lockheed Martin (), whom we'll get to in a second.

(Except where noted, companies mentioned in this column declined to comment.)

is this anything new? NOPE....it is the haves vs the have nots....I used to be anti union until I woke up and discovered this shyte.....

You know, one day there will be a revolution and guess who the common folk will be going after? These idiots.

As I have always said: you really don't need these execs....most companies run fine without them. I know in many cases where the upper ups have been absent or the position empty for a period of time, the companies I worked for got along just fine.....

You know, one day these people will wake up to an armed mob in front of their gates and sit there and wonder "oh my, why did this happen"?

I've gotten a gift card or Christmas card a few times ... I'm not even in the same universe as the perks you mentioned lmao

At this moment, Dave, I really do not like you! :biggrin2:

Hmmm, perks of my job!

If you consider death threats a perk, than I'm winning!

Got mine today Funky & Music and it was way beyond my wildest expectations. I know we had a good year, but it was a big surprise.

I have to say, I am incredibly lucky and fortunate to work where I do. The president is an amazing guy and never fails to show his appreciation for us workers and our families. The workplace is fun, professional, and everyone goes to the greatest extent to perform their job and help you with yours at the slightest request.

I get a few perks, mostly travel - Vegas, Carribbean, etc. And I fully expect a bonus of 15-20% of base salary.

If that doesn't happen, we have competitors who do have strong bonus structure and incentive program

Congratulations. You work from home or in their building?.

Not to worry, I don't think I'm on anyone's Christmas list this year. I'll be sure to rub it in if that changes though haha

Nope. Just part of a great, non-union team that builds a great product that every manufacturer can use.
