Do you smoke?

If like most guys your opportunity to become semi-retired occurred in your fifties, then your 33 odd years of being a non-smoker combined with your track record as a hobbyist make you one very impressive senior citizen.

My hat's off to you, sir!

I'd like to be banging the babes when I'm in my 80s too.

And if you were semi-retired at age 25, I'm just plain jealous.

Nah, I'm 63... when I was semi retired, actually I was just employed in a high paying, part time job.. had a lot of freedom to take time off, etc...

Have not smoked a cigarette in 35 years I would say but have indulged in more than a few spliffs in that time.

been about 10 years since i had a smoke, still like the smell and taste when DFKing stripper,MPA or SP ...i loved to start again but bride and family would dis-own me ..

I quit 5 years ago. Started again for about 7 months while I was away, quit again in Nov when I got home. Pretty easy, really. Don't know what all the "It's hard to quit" fuss is about.

You're like a couple of people I know: they can start and stop at will. I think it all has something to do with the addiction part of the brain. Some people can get additicted to substances easily, some normally, and some not at all.

I only have 1 really bad habit, and that's smoking. I don't drink, do drugs, eat red meat, only have fried foods about once a month, and the ONLY reason smokers have become pariahs is due to the hype from the media. Smoking really isn't any worse for you than eating fast food 3 times a day, or frying everything (aka poor diet).

I smoke about a pack a day (large) a lot less if I'm working somewhere where I can't smoke inside. I kind of like this because if I didn't stop for a smoke once in a while, I'd never take a break......

For those that think it's easy to quit: The addiction researchers have determined that nicotine addiction is worse than heroin......just saying is all.....

I quite like 5 years ago. it started to hurt when I breathed so I just stopped . can't stand the smell of it . when i am drinking i think i might like it and i take a drag and it makes me sick.....

Here's a little story for ya:

It is well known that I moved up north this year. About a month ago I went back to the city to do a job for an existing customer of mine. I arrived sunday afternoon for a monday morning start.

By monday afternoon it felt like someone was sitting on my chest. It actually took a lot of effort to take a breath. Is it because I smoke or because the air in toronto is so polluted? My house is surrounded by about 500 trees cleaning the air 24/7. What are you surrounded by in the city? Cars producing carbon monoxide 24/7.

One more thing: when I was living in the city, I'd get a cold, flu or ?? about once every 2 months. I've been here for 10 months and I haven't been sick once....

Yup, the clean air of the countryside is helping to keep you healthy... now just stop polluting your body with tobacco and you'll get even more benefits.

Although, one thing I did notice... as soon as I quit smoking, I started gaining weight... sigh...

Now when i come into Toronto to play I find myself hacking and sneezing a lot...

Well hey, the way I look at it (and even my doctor concurs): since I'm really not doing too much else to pollute my body, having just ONE bad habit isn't so bad. She says although, we really ought to start talking about it...lol.....

When I last quit I started a work out regime to burn off the excess energy. The only problem with that is my appetite increased so much (just to maintain my current weight) that I ended up spending as much on food as I had been on smokes......I went from a light breakfast, light lunch and regular portion dinner to 4 full meals a day plus snacks in between. (snacks would be a muffin, fruit bowl, pasta salad, chef's salad etc). It was fricken ridiculous.....
