Do you take your shoes off at home or when you visit others?.

I have a rule of shoes off when guests come to my home. But noticed that not all live by that rule. I can only imagine the dirt that they accumulate. Am I being too picky?.

I am pretty much the same way, and i have grown to like the freedom of being barefoot at home.

It's one reason why I don't like having parties or big gatherings at my place anymore. One thing you could do is offer slippers to those that don't want to take off their shoes.

I also find it a little odd when I go to others' houses and notice them putting up their feet (with outside shoes on) on to the sofa, coffee table, bed etc.

I've been told that it's an American/Canadian thing. We have so much bad weather that we're used to removing our boots/shoes at the door. Americans have so many hot, sunny states where they never see a single snowflake, that there's usually no need to remove footwear.

This was explained to me in great detail by my ex American husband when I, his newly emigrated Canadian bride had the audacity to request that all SIX of his children from his previous marriage take their shoes off at the door. Silly me, I assumed that because I was the one doing ALL the cleaning, that I should have some say in the matter. Tsk, tsk ...

Edit - I remove my shoes at the door, because then the dirt on the bottom of the shoes stays near the door rather than being tracked throughout the house. I request that all my guests remove their shoes at the door also.

I find it disgusting when people walk in with their shoes and worse if they put their shoes on sofas or beds. Mind you I also don't like to see the family pet on sofa, beds and counter tops. It drives me insane when I see a cat walking across a counter top.

I keep my shoes on on my ground floor because the hardwood is terrible on my ankles and I haven't found comfortable slippers yet that fit me. My guests are welcome to do whatever they like with their footwear. When I'm visiting, I always take my shoes/boots off at the door even if the floors are visibly dirty. Socks can be washed.
