Are you kidding me? Having a picture of an Asian-looking person is contentious, but after nearly 150 years of having pictures of only Caucasian people on the banknotes is considered a neutral image? Huh? Hmmmmmm

Isn't political correctness a real pain in the ass?

One person in Fredericton commented: “The person on it appears to be of Asian descent which doesn’t rep(resent) Canada. It is fairly ugly.”

Bias aren't we
:unknw:

Aren't there too many people with nothing to do with their lives?. Jeez, who cares.

Rednecks rule :unknw:

just so you know, it was during a focus group that the comments were heard, the image never made it to notes in circulation......and sorry, yeah, white IS a "middle of the road" race......aka "white bread" or "vanilla"....two common terms used to describe something common or bland......

If it was an Asian woman then then the pic should have been her giving a rub down to Jack Layton

What better way to both represent Asian parlors and get Jack Layton on the 100 dollar bill?

actually blackie, I think the point of your story is that you didn't think they should have scrapped the original image and you alluded to the fact that it was changed due to the public "complaining" about it.....

Well, if you're asked for your opinion during a focus group, and your opinion has some negative connotations to it, it isn't a complaint, it's just a negative opinion....that's how I read your post and title anyways....

And how is that any different from what I just said?

Focus group opinions are just as up for debate as any other opinion. If something as overtly racial as what was said in that focus group were said in public, they would have been condemned. Of course, an Asian woman can represent Canada.

and that ISN'T racial???

Sorry, I disagree, an asian woman cannot represent "canada". As diverse a population we are, a single visible ethnic group cannot represent "canada". That is no different than a caucasian representing japan, or a japanese representing jamaica.....

Actually, I didn't read anything brought up in the focus group that I would say would be condemned if stated in public. I think living in Nottawa you've become too PC......
