$7.40 an hour is a disgraceful wage. I would think somewhere between $7.40 and $15.00 is where minimum wage should be, like Guido mentioned in Ontario for adults it is $10.25\hr, students $9.60/hr and if I'm not mistaken servers are at $8.90 and hour. This is fair although that being said even at these wages a household cannot survive in Toronto but at the same time much higher and some businesses cannot survive. I'm not anti business I'm all about fairness.
McDonalds like the banks and oil companies are making huge profits and this is where the problem lies. Unions in such profitable companies should be brought in to level the playing field. It shouldn't be that a selected few line their pockets and enjoy the best life has to offer while the rank and file struggle to put food on their table. Prices are up, taxes are up, peoples wages are down except for a selected few (the 1%) and this is not fair and I'm not talking about the lazy bastard that is healthy and doesn't want to work so don't go there.
Manufacturing is leaving/gone, companies are off-shoring their customer service departments to India (sears is the latest) so maybe it's about time we start going after companies that cannot send the jobs away.
Rogers and Bell have teamed up to keep Verizon out of Canada. They have launched an impressive campaign attacking the government's unfair policy favoring the American communication giant. Well, workers working at McDonalds do not have the money to fight any other way and striking is their only option. This will happen more and more as companies try to lower the standard of living and ruin the American/Canadian dream. Just because a job is a stepping stone doesn't mean someone should be reduced to begging on the street to make more money.
