Would he have killed her if there were no facebook? I find this so very sad, and it confuses me. We have many social media platforms, that obviously encourage this, and it's encouraged by allowing it, if only for mins or seconds. Yet social media sites keep on, and thrive.......
Yet when or if we have breeds of dogs thought to be dangerous, we act quickly to eliminate them
if we have foods that we learn might cause disease, or other issues, we take them off our shelves or send out warnings
if we have cars that cause problems, we take them off the streets
if we have toys that may be harmful we too take those off the shelves
we try and eliminate all that we think that will cause or allow human harm. We put up barriers so some can't commit suicides, we lock up people to prevent them from harming others, we do lots. Yet we never get to the heart of the matters and we still allow manufacturing of weapons and encourage people to own them, we make drugs and more drugs, and encourage some to use them, we want a smaller world, so we look for ways to connect via technology, yet all these cause harm, and deaths. But those also make big$$ and there in lies the difference I suppose. So don't feel to bad by this story, imo, we all encourage these types of acts by allowing a lot of what is harmful to continue. But I do see things differently

I am not going to blame his actions on FB......In fact I am going to set the blame square on his shoulders.

Now with that said .......FB provides an audience, not the want to kill.

Unfortunately, social media has given people the power to produce and publish unedited content with no moderation or censorship. The moderation and censorship usually comes after the fact. I get notifications all the time about live streaming, mostly from artists/musicians, my friends don't participate in this type of thing.

^Maybe not, but you know people and I bet that article was viewed more than any non-violent article. Fact is, and you like facts, humans thrive on salaciousness, and sadly, violence. FB may not have the want to kill, actually it isn't human so it can't have any wants,however, it's owners/directors/employees, may not either, yet they do want an audience, and again, these types of stories draw the biggest audiences. Isn't that telling.
So without FB he might not have killed, that "might not" seems to be enough to eliminate other things.......so why not things like FB

I figure that if you dislike or disagree with a website......You stop using it.......UNLESS it promotes ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES....Then you work to shut it down.

As I said, if only for secs or mins. Posting a warning as you know, won't stop those who wish to promote or commit these acts. The only thing that might, imo, is to not have forums that can or will display them.
I think it's a worthy argument, but then again my thinking is said by a couple of trolls, to be warped, lol.

I will be honest....I am not a fan of the facebook live being open to all users.

Now I have seen some great interviews by Jazz Greats on it.......But as you hint it does draw out the crazies....

Shutting that down does seems like a fair reaction.

The bottom line is he took a live that didn't belong to him and had no right doing.
