WTF?

A man who took an adorable picture of his toddler in a Scottish shopping centre was questioned by police after the photo apparently fell foul of anti-terrorism laws.

Staff at the busy shopping centre became suspicious after they spotted Chris White taking a photo on his phone of his 4-year-old daughter enjoying some ice cream at Braehead shopping centre, near Glasgow.

According to Mr White, 45, a security guard ran over and threatened him - claiming that taking the photo of his own daughter Hazel was “illegal”.

But Mr White maintained that his young daughter, who was crying in his arms, was the only one in the photo.

Police were then called to the scene and threatened to confiscate his phone allegedly citing the Terrorism Act when Mr White – a local mental health worker - refused to delete the photos he had posted on Facebook moments before.

However, under the Terrorism Act officers do not have the power to delete digital images or destroy film at any point during a search unless a court order has been granted.

The police allowed him to keep the images and no further action was taken.

The offended father launched a to boycott the shopping centre soon after the drama unfolded on Friday at 4pm with thousands of people inundating the Facebook page with comments criticising the actions of the mall and the police.

Outraged, Mr White said last night: “I wonder how many shoplifters got away while they were dealing with my act of ‘terrorism’. Surely thousands of people have taken pictures inside shopping centres.”

Superintendent George Nedley of Strathclyde Police confirmed last week’s incident.

“My officers attended and gave advice and no further action was taken by the police officers. I can confirm we have received a complaint regarding this incident and one of my officers has spoken to Mr White regarding this.

“As a result, a full review of the circumstances surrounding the incident and the allegations made is underway.”

In response to the matter, a spokesperson for Braehead said it wanted to “maintain a safe and enjoyable environment” for shoppers.

welcome to the world where terrorism is prevalent.

He shouldn't prompt people to stop going to the mall, it isn't the vendor's fault, it's the security guard and police that are at fault.

You all have to remember: terrorists have NO problem using kids as decoys......

Further, I wonder if the police or mall security really were 'at fault'??? If they'd been instructed to investigate any photos being taken then they were only acting on orders. I also wonder what the 'drama' was? Did they go over, ask him some questions, ask him to delete the photos, and when he wouldn't did they leave him alone? if so, BFD.

BTW: if this type of action offends you, don't blame the authorities, they didn't invite anyone to blow up schools, shopping centers, trains........

I agree sir. This is the new face of terrorism. Egads, they are training her to attack using pink scooters.

My guess is that yahoo will be investigated for releasing this image that is so vital to national...nay mall security.

Just to play devil's advocate here:

1) You shoot an innocent picture of a toddler eating ice cream
2) You take that photo and all the details of that pink scooter and build an exact replica
3) This replica is packed with ball bearings and 20 lbs of C4
4) You have someone "accidentally" damage one so it needs replacing
5) You do a service call and replace the damaged one with the one packed with c4
6) during the upcoming Christmas rush, you detonate it.

Sounds fishy right? Well, let's not forget a suicide bomber set off a car bomb in a crowded market in Iraq after being passed through a military checkpoint. Know why they let him by? He had 3 kids in the car with him, all under 6 yrs old.....and yes, they were in the car when he set it off......

Blame the military checkpoint for not doing their jobs. Were they fired?.

I really, really wonder what the world will be like in 30 years.

thankfully I won't be around to see it.....

But, this is my prediction:
1) There will be little or no middle class left. There will be the elite, and poor...nothing in between
2) The world, courts, society, government will all be run by corporations bent on profits
3) If there IS any middle class left, 80% of their income will go to support the poor, and the elite
4) Gas will be $10.00 per litre with $9.90 of that going to taxes
5) The air will be brown, everywhere
6) Lung cancer deaths will rise to 50% of all cancer deaths
