In less than two weeks I turn 60. That's right, the big six oh. Holy shit.


I felt a little scared when I turned 40, but now that seems so young. Then when I turned 50--past middle age, unless you think you're going to make it to 100. Yeah, I don't think so.


Now I'm thinking this is pretty much the three-quarter mark, assuming I make it to 80. I don't know--my Dad didn't live that long, nor did either of my Grandfathers. I know more about health and nutrition than they ever did, and I've never had one puff on a cigarette in my life. I could stand to lose twenty or thirty pounds, but I'm in decent enough shape and still exercise regularly.


I would hope my sex life can continue for at least a few more years. I still enjoy sex quite a lot and, although my body doesn't cooperate the way it once did, I think I can still satisfy my partner more or less. Maybe I'm fooling myself though--almost all my sex is of the paid variety now, as my wife has little interest any more. Is it that SHE is not feeling it herself, or because I'm really her only choice when it comes to sex, and therefore she would rather not?


I know, age is just a number. Seriously, I will still be the same man in two weeks that I am today--except I will be in my sixties, not my fifties. Maybe once I hit that milestone it won't seem so old to me--many of my friends are in their sixties and they don't seem elderly. Once I get there, maybe it will be 70 that appears old to me. Hey, I have ten years and nine days to go before I hit seventy! Whoo hoo!


There, I'm feeling a little better now. Those of you who have met me, please feel free to tell me you didn't think I was that old, that you thought I was about 45. Heck, I'll even take "not a day over 59" right now!
