Fired for doing porn: The new employment discrimination

Hmmmmmm

You had me at "A 4-foot-11 Arkansas native best known her signature move — receiving anal sex while doing a handstand..."

It sickens me that someone who was in the sex industry is blacklisted and harassed when they move on to bigger and better careers.

So much for Mackay's exit strategies for our ladies because of his demeaning policies. :unknw:

Go figure she does 140 porno flicks plus anal and she wants a new career :unknw:

One of my previous occupations was 'church secretary' years before I became a SP. Looking through the help wanted ads the other day I saw a position for church secretary. I wonder if they'd accept my application and help me transition out of the industry? Hmmmmmm

I've lost a few jobs cause of my history in porn. I already know Bill 36 isn't going to save me or put in me in a better position cause of their exit programs because of how they have failed me in the past.

They claim they want to show you a life better then being a sex worker, and how you should feel ashamed for choosing sex work. then when your new life and new job comes with obstacles and your past comes back to haunt you they aren't there to help you handle those issues.

You're not kidding. To this day when I'm working I'm constantly looking around and over my shoulder. I've dyed my hair, wear colored contact lenses and dress very conservative in the hopes of never being recognized and yes I chose to be an escort and left when I chose to leave and will return if I choose to do so.

So, everyone is entitled to do change their careers and not be judged.

''Now that it has become less feasible to make a living as an adult performer, some believe the onus is on agents, managers and production companies (most of which do not even offer their performers health insurance) to help ease their performers’ transition back into the mainstream by teaching them valuable work skills, or showing them how to manage their finances so they can accrue a substantial nest egg before retirement. “It seems to me the closest bonds these girls have are with these agents/managers,''

Yeah good luck with that one,lol

One thing I've wondered about is if advertising becomes illegal, how on earth are SP's supposed to delete old ads on every site where they've posted them, some many years ago? Would law enforcement believe that every SP who used to advertise an extensive explicit menu, suddenly only offers companionship and dinner dates?

This was an American story, I wonder if it is also applicable to Canadians? I honestly don't know, I'm curious. Are our laws better at preventing this kind of harassment at work, after one has already started working in a new career and then one gets noticed for their previous career?

I have my serious doubts that they have put enough effort into really finding new career paths for sex workers, as they say they have. They've put some lip-service money into a pot, to prove that they are doing something.

They don't you go threw a curriculum of life skills, then they teach you how to find food banks in the city and they sometimes have one with spoiled food, resume writing and interview skills, then they "help" you apply for post secondary and upgrading programs, which not all of them are free, then applications for OSAP, OW and ODSP. which basically keep you at barely broke or just about to be homeless.

The Street Light Support Services seems to be a non-profit org, that has existed since 1997. Are you saying that the govt will be setting up similar programs?

There already are Women's Resource Centers in many communities. Women who take time out from working to stay home and raise their kids use these services when they want to get back into the regular work force. I went to one in Kelowna years ago and they had all kinds of courses and help available.

Punishing someone for bettering themselves and not giving them a true second chance to succeed is shameful.

It is the way of the uneducated.
