Anyone had their flu shot?

Everyone at work that had it are now off sick. The rest of us that refused to are all strong and healthy and being forced to pick up the slack for the sick ones!:grrrrrr:

I really believe taking the shot and injecting people with the actual viruses leads to making them sick. The viruses mutate and it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

Just my POV, I'm not a doctor or in the medical field so maybe I'm full of shit.

I highly doubt that "everyone" that had it are now off sick and to make your point valid, that would mean that no one who didn't have it has been off, or will be off sick.

As for getting sick from the shot, vaccines are made from dead virus' so I highly doubt that is the cause. Maybe they got the live virus when they went to get the virus shot? Kind of like catching a cold when you go to the er full of people with a cold because you had a broken arm. You could then say "broken arms make you sick".....

Oh, just one more thing? It only takes one person to come into work with the flu to get everyone sick. If they went with those who are off sick to get the shot, then there's your cause and effect. Likewise, if they all work in close proximity to that person, and those who aren't sick don't, that is also the cause.

OH, and like this article states: the flu the people are off sick with might not be the same flu they were vaccinated against. There are thousands of strains of it....

Thanks for the link Tboy :great:

np, that's what the net's for lol....

(well, other than porn that is!)

Had mine about a month ago with no side effects. So far it has been effective. Doctor said rarely some people get some very mild symptoms for a day or so. I also am not buying the everyone booking of sick because of the shot story. That is unless you work for the City or TTC in which case you probably get paid leave for a hangnail.

I have never had a flu shot in my life and knock on wood have not even have had a cold in over a decade.

I figure with my luck I would be the one to have adverse side effects so I just do my best to eat healthy and get a lot of exercise.

I also try to wash my hands every chance I get through out the day.

That helps a LOT plus if you don't work with, know, or hang with, adults with kids you're even better off still. Plus if you don't take public transit that is another high risk activity.

Same as schools, they are cesspools of disease. I used to work in an office with someone who had 3 kids in grade school and she was ALWAYS sick, or taking off to take care of a sick kid. It got to the point where it was deemed she was the one bringing all the stuff into the office so the bosses told her: if one of your kids is sick? DON'T come in, it's costing us a fortune....

I forget which paper it was but they quoted a study done that one person coming in when they're sick, costs the company 7 - 10 times as much as if they'd just taken the day off because they spread the disease to so many.

This is one of the many reasons why I quite the corporate world. I'd get sick or take a day off, then the phone would ring every 5 minutes with people from work. I said to the boss one time: you love it when I take a day off or I'm sick, you get almost a full days work from me and it doesn't cost a thing. He just smiled......(asshole).

I never get the shot. I'm healthy and have a strong immune system. I think only the weak, very old and people with other health issues should have a need for it.

Any doctors in the house? I think that unless you've been exposed to the virus before, and your immune system knows how to handle it, you'll get sick whether you have a strong immune system or not.

Now as for constitution, if you're healthy then you'll get the flu, just not the severe symptoms that the young, old, and weak do. You may feel tired one night, then be fine the next afternoon. Or might feel a little stuffy for a day.

I dated a girl who was SO susceptible to colds that if she saw someone across the street with one, she'd get it. If she saw someone on TV with one, she'd get it. But with her, she'd get the sniffles for a few days and that was it. Me? She'd give it to me and I'd be out for a week but I've always had sinus problems, allergies, stuff like that.

You kind of sound like a buddy of mine who says he never gets hangovers. Oh sure, he just sleeps for 18 hrs after a night out lol......
