I could care less what the Jones' have or what they think of me, but I must admit that I do love my toys and I enjoy quality (but not necessarily luxury).

I figure I work hard and I earn my way. My family immigrated with very little and we grew up watching our pennies. There's no better budget master than a healthy fear of being broke.

BF cooks for me every Saturday night and it is always better tasting then a meal out. Don't tell him though because every once an while I like to venture outside.
My neighbors always copy me with the cheap shit and it is funny.
I never buy a car from the lot, never do payments. Always cash.
My house is getting to big with just one kid gone. Can't wait to boot out the other and with the cat so I can get a new leather couch without fear of scratches.
I would rather invest in a big fucking boat over a cottage or trailer
Why buy a hot tub to use a couple of times a year. Get a good gym membership. Steam room, hot tub and workout all in one. Bonus - Naked chicks. Sorry guys
I love to travel so I am screwed there.

Bottomline, life is too short to try and keep up with anyone. I do what works for me and let others do the same. :biggrin2:

As stated, you'll get hosed on your maintenance fees....and believe me, be careful who you vote into the board, they'll fuck you in the end......when you buy a condo you basically forfeit your right of ownership......if the board decides on a special assessment, and you don't have the cash, they'll take your unit. If you're late on your maintainence fees? they'll attempt to take your unit.

Back in the day it used to be that the owners held all the power and condo corps were folding left and right. Now? All the laws are to protect the corp, NOT the owner.....

Shit, there was a story in edmonton (I think) where the owners of a building whose units were worth $300,000.00 had special assessments of $700K on them....due to a bs builder....

ANyhow, rant over.....

I was thinking the same thing as player....had a yard sale, selling off all my duplicate tools, getting rid of the big 4 x 4 pickup, selling my cargo trailer (that hasn't moved hardly in 2 yrs), etc etc......I've got two bedrooms that I only go into once or twice a month to check for leaks etc lol.....

I was never the one to "keep up with the joneses", but I did like nice things......

You can say that again.....it used to be that boats appreciated in value, not any more....they drop worse than an anchor......I don't know what the current rates are but a slip in the toronto area ran $2500 - $3000 for the summer for a 30 footer, plus $2500 for winter storage, plus $20 per foot to get it OUT of the water and back in in the spring, plus blocking fees, plus fuel costs (mine got 2 gallons per mile at full throttle), plus repairs (sell something at the marine chandlery and the price triples).........never mind all the other repairs you HAVE to do.....

I agree, but you have to have deep DEEP pockets for that freedom........you have to have a job where you're not working 4 outta 5 days just to pay for the boat....

I tell ya, some of the stories I have from owning that boat.....sheesh...it's a wonder I survived lol.......

that is why you get one that does not rely on decaying dinosaurs for power.

you move it to a sheltered harbor in a less developed country and live like a king or queen for several grand per year.

if you are handy around a boat you will always find things to keep you busy.

that was my original plan, but as with all things, plans change.....but still, even with a sheet flapper, things get expensive real quick....unless you end up with a bote like captain ron!!!

Thankfully I have a job that let's me choose when I work and has given me very deep pockets. With retirement set already and I am only in my mid 30's, house paid, cars, paid, no debt, what else is left for a woman to do then spent stupid amounts on trivial things.

However, I do get what you are saying. The maintenance is high, but worth it to me.
