Has there been a major societal shift that I somehow missed!?

Why is it that almost every television and mass media advertisement now features almost exclusively bi-racial or even tri-racial couples and families?

It always seems to be a white dude with a black or asian wife, or a black dude with a white or asian wife, or an asian dude with a black wife and one male white child and one brown female child....the combinations and permutations seem unlimited.

Yet, I still rarely see the traditional two whites with white kids, or two blacks with black kids, or two asians with asian kids, etc. etc.???

This all seems very strange to me, and not representative at all of actual societal norms....

While mixed race families are indeed growing in numbers across the globe, it can't have reached the point where they are now the rule, rather than the exception, so why the massive shift of the advertising pendulum? What is the marketing message I'm supposed to be getting, which apparently I'm not...?

I need to be edumacated...Hmmmmmm

I think it's simple. The advertisers of this world are trying to put their product in a good light and emphasize they respect all people. Sure it's shill, but everything is shill. For example, look at Bell's Let's Talk. It's shill because they were forced to do. Marketing is just that mate, it's marketing.

White "liberal" people are a funny species. They spend a lot of time trying to show the world they're tolerant. Perhaps it's guilt? I don't know. I care much less about the advertisement personally and more about the product.

Then make all advertisements for China and India only. They are only half of the world's population.

I noticed that as well but it has been going on for the last couple of years. Everyone is scared of lawsuits. Lawyers will find any excuse to make sleaze dollars.

This actually makes a LOT of sense. I never thought of it that way. Hmmmmmm

You are telling a prick he is right?. There goes the theory of never to think like your prick.

Had to throw this one in for laughs.

What you missed was the major lobbying by those minority groups who wanted equal representation, even though they realized they were minorities. They lobbied Hollywood to get in movies, they lobbied networks to get into tv, they lobbied advertisers to get into commercials.
all of them gave minorities equal representation to avoid being labeled racist.
so, equality isn't real. And political correctness isn't reality.
but, since most minorities have had a hard time, been victimized by racists for such a long time, I think it's only fair that they get special treatment once in a while.
I have a dream....

@ Lori: How do I know who liked or thanked my post? It just says "hidden content" on the notifications? Do you know that?

PS: You look like a snow woman, does that mean you're cold? Sorry!

I don't mind that Reggie Mantle is Asian on the new Riverdale series or that Moose Mason meets gays in the woods, but why did they make Miss Grundy a hot teacher who seduces Archie???

I made a comment about this same subject to my 20yo son just the other day. He just game a look like I was from mars, shook his head and walked away. Its a different world now and "vive la difference"

Why are any of you wasting your time watching TV commercials?
So I recently found out that this is still a thing? I guess with people who still use cable? I don't know why... I grew up with adblock and fast-forwarding, and then streams for sports with the commercials replaced with porn or black screen+music.

Absolutely foreign and insane to me. Advertising for different market segments has become more polarized than ever...

I once saw an IKEA ad that did not feature two bearded gay men kissing. Ads like that say to me "We want everyone's money". In that regard, we're in agreement, but I don't think kids should be seeing that in prime time, on a network station.
