Naw, been outside enjoying the weather....plus having to do all sorts of doctor's appointments....going in for cataract surgery on the 15th.....(One eye) the other is early May....

I've had a couple relatives have their cataracts done and they all wished they had done the procedure sooner. Good luck.

Good Luck tboy......Hope for the best for you......Stop laughing everybody....I do...Honest...
You see the women better......:anangel:

Cataract surgery is less painful than going to the dentist. Worst thing is putting the drops in so you can see it's not too bad. "Course" in places like Barrie the eye surgeon might also be the the optomitrist and own the 7/11.

Well, the killer thing is: I almost bailed on the consult appointment. Showed up at 4 for a 4:15 appointment and there was 10 people ahead of me. I gave him until 5:30 then I was walking.....I said to my driver/buddy: if I was 1 1/2hrs late for a job interview would I get the job? Nope.

On top of that: 2 weeks off work (1 per eye), $179 per eye for the laser measurement (the government paid version isn't as accurate and is outdated), $180 for my astigmatistic eye, rotational alignment $170 per eye, plus I need a physical from my family doc before they will do it, that's another day, plus time off for the measuring appointment, plus 2 days off for the surgery.....total cost: about $4000.00 FUUUCK

I'm sorry to hear about your eyes T. I thought cataract surgery was fully covered by Ohip unlike lazer eye surgery for vision?

that's what I thought but they only cover the basics.....and not my missed pay. I could apply for EI benefits but they have a 2 week waiting period....and I'll be off for ....2 weeks.

Been reading up on things and the basic plastic old school lens' that OHIP covers aren't as good as the upgraded ones. The ones that allow me to see far AND near are $2000 each. No way can I afford them.

Now I probably could go with the basic everything but like my buddy said: dude, they're your eyes and you'll need them for 20 yrs or more.....so that's like $20 per year.....go for the upgrades. I'm kind of sensing a con job here, you know, it all may be true but still......got this feeling that I'm being upsold.......

Ah, I get it now doh, the $4000 includes lost wages. That does suck, this is when a job with sick days really comes in handy.

Then again, most companies only give you 5 days for the year....this is going to eat up 10.....I miss the benefits when I worked for Crappy tire...I got 6 weeks vacay.......

The 5 to 7 day a year is the new norm the big companies being public or private are trying to push down union members throats. As you see with your own situation, having accumulating sick days if used properly are a very valued benefit. In your case it's only 2 weeks but in some cases it could be much longer.

The 411 city workers are giving the Ford administration a much bigger fight than the outside workers did. I hope they show the other unions how it's done!

The thing is, after 3 days your short term disability kicks in via the health benefits program 99.9% of companies have or provide. The 5 or 7 sick days really is a non-issue. Since most unions have a supplementary health program in place, all you need is a doctor's note and you're good to go.....least that was what was required back when I had benefits lol.

I'm still looking into buying into one of these programs though. I looked into one via the company that I got my mortgage from and get this, they wanted $800 per month, and they didn't cover any pre-existing conditions (ie: lipitor for my cholesteral) and the rep didn't see what the problem was and did so with a completely straight face.

I said to him: for $800 per month I could not only get my teeth cleaned weekly, I could cap them all, pay for all my drugs, and still have money left over for a night out......

The problem with short term disability is that it comes with many restrictions depending on the company one works for. It has caps, some employers will contest the doctors note, some have so many days without pay first ect....

The only benefit I would be willing to part with is the payout of the sick days at the end of employment although many will argue it keeps the employee honest about when and how to use the days.

$800/month is ridiculous and they know most won't take it.
