Hijacking threads....

In a recent thread I posted I noticed another gentlemen point out that it had been "another thread hijacked", which it had. I'm wondering, since this does appear to happen often. Does thread hijacking bother you? Do you find it rude? Do you think it should be encouraged, or discouraged? Why do you think some feel the need to hijack. A need for attention, thoughtlessness, or just antics?
My thoughts-I think it's rude.I think we've all done it at some point and not always with bad or mischievous intentions, but shouldn't we be more considerate towards the op's and try to stay on topics. Isn't that more respectful? I know sometimes we think we're being funny and sometimes we are. Still, taking a thread of rails isn't very considerate, nor is it respectful to the topic posted and isn't it akin to interrupting someone when they're speaking.

It'll be interesting to see where this goes....lol.

No need to apologize, we've all done it. Sometimes it is fun, and sometimes we do it without realizing.One can just get caught in the back and forth of the banter. This thread isn't to chastise or to condemn but to question and understand and maybe to consider how we all post

This topic has been discussed several times before. Thread hijacks are like rabbit trails in a real life conversation. If you're talking with a group of friends, one topic often leads to another, and the same thing happens here.

I think they're ok as long as the one who posted the thread is ok with it. If it gets out of hand and the author posts that they want to get it back on track, I think other members should respect that.

On the other hand, the author of a thread shouldn't try to dictate who's allowed to post or what they're allowed to post in their thread. You don't 'own' the thread. It's not like twitter where you can block people from participating.

Some forums are really strict about hijacking and ban members who do it, other forums seem to encourage it or not care.

If we're "friends talking" then you'd think respect would be a given. It does boil down to respect. When a group of my friends get together we allow one another to finish our sentences, we don't jump into the conversation to cut one another off, or start up a different conversation, without finshing the other. Friends when talking, are respectful to one another, not just a select few
The rest of your statement confuses me, on one hand you say hijacking should be stopped when asked, yet a person can't tell someone to stop?
Hopefully some here might "see the light" and understand that when someone posts a thread that is asking questions, that is serious in nature, that isn't encouraging comedy, then perhaps the mature thing to do is to stay on topic, and if you can't, then start a thread of your own, or message your friend and carry on your off topic posts there. There is a time and place for everything

How many times can you beat the old wanker to death?. Most new threads are either link to news, rants or what's on the OP's mind. So after most putting their 2 cents it becomes repetitious, redundant or just boring. You can argue forever struggles that guys have, if Katie Rich is a bitch or not, what sp write on their Twitter, depression, recession, been in a two or threesome and so on and on.

Look at other places where idiots keep saying and replying to a thread saying the same damn thing using a different words in the English vocabulary. You just wasted 10 minutes of your life going through 10 pages with nothing to gain from it.

A perfect example of hijacking is the "SP that does porn thread". Dude has his POV, writes his observation and thoughts then all of a sudden it becomes a BBBF thread- WTF people, get real.

So follow my rules and you'll do fine. Now, go back to work.

The issue of thread hijacking will always be a source of contention because different personality types enjoy different types of interaction. Some people like everything to be precisely neat and orderly, while others enjoy chaos, and the rest enjoy a mixture of both.
