I wonder why they do it - if they're catching insects, just for fun, or are the males showing off for the females?

I used to dive a lot, and dove with rays several times. When I saw this happening I asked one of the oceanographers on the trip with us, and he said they do it for fun (at least that's the assumption because no one ever found a valid reason!). Looks like they are enjoying themselves!
