The only thing you're missing is the word eventually and possibly. We've impacted the earth to such an extent that the damage we've done (and are doing) is probably at the point now that it cannot recover naturally. As Bliss pointed out: how many species have become extinct? How many species are full of mercury? If they're damaged at a genetic level then there is no recovery without our intervention.

Same as nuclear reactors. If all the reactors in the world went critical, and radiation leaked all over the planet, no species would survive......(except maybe for roaches, they survive nuclear fallout)

After a million years I'm guessing there would be no evidence of humans or nuclear radiation and there would be life on earth.

Sorry, not if the entire planet was irradiated.....

Now I'm not totally against population control and that the planet would be much better off if 80 or 90% of the current population went bye bye. But to say it would be better off if we all went, that's just not true. I think it's way too late for that to happen....

Shit, if you watch any science program or documentary, one thing most scientists agree upon is that we're irreparably changed the planet....

Well bliss, I hate to get into with you, but you should do a little more research. There are some natural phenomena that no planet could recover from. If a nuclear holocaust caused all life to cease on earth, then nothing would ever recover from that.

Taking the meteor that caused the extinction of the dinosaurs for example: it didn't kill all life on the planet, just the large cold blooded ones.

Now if all life were extinguished from the planet. In order for the planet to recover (as you imply) new life would need to be seeded and that life would have to be able to survive with no source of water, or food (since it all would be gone via the nuclear wasteland).

There is speculation now that life on earth was seeded via a meteor or comet as the building blocks for DNA have been found to be present on astral bodies. This is why I use the term "seeded" because how DNA first started has always been a bit of a mystery for scientists (hence why so many people believe "god" created DNA).

You should check out PBS. They always have series on the history of the planet, how things evolved, how the planet actually came into being. It is pretty interesting!

(and I'm not saying this with any animosity, the programs are actually very interesting....)

I actually really agree with the habitat for humanity philosophy.....they don't just hand over a house to someone, they have to put some effort into keeping it, maintaining it etc. Teaches them pride of ownership. That goes right along with give a man a fish, and he eats lunch. Teach him how to fish, and he eats lunch everyday.

I think there's a movie out about that. Where they scan your genome and find out if you and your wife have kids, will there be any serious illness, intelligence, etc and if there will be a high chance of an incurable disease, you don't get your "kid" permit. I see nothing wrong with that.....

Was it? I seem to recall a scene where a man and a woman were in a doctor's office and they had just been "scanned" and were reviewing the results...was that in gattaca? I thought it was a different movie.....

One of the reasons I agree with this is from a documentary on..the discovery channel (I think) where they were showing a husband and wife with a baby who was born with like 1% of it's brain. They were both tested before they conceived because the gene that caused this genetic malformation was present in both their families. When tested they were both found to carry the gene and that it was a 90% chance their baby would be born malformed. They went ahead and got pregnant, the fetus was tested, found to be malformed, and they went ahead with a full term pregnancy and had the baby.

The baby was blind, deaf, mute and would never walk, move or see. It only had enough brain for the automatic nervous system and would require millions of dollars of care to keep alive.

I could never understand a person's undeniable insatiable urge to reproduce.....
