How do I install American Sirius/XM in my car??

I'm thinking of getting satradio, but the Canadian Sirius version sucks donkey balls, so I wanna get the American one. Do I have to drive to Buffalo to get it installed?? Or is there a way to install it here in Toronto??

The difference in channel options is staggering.

That is a good question there esco. Since all accounts are linked through the radio ID number I think you'd have to buy a US version and have it installed here. I'd go with a portable Ipod type version so you can take it into the house etc. I had an XM radio like that and it was pretty handy (although trouble getting a signal through all the trees).

It isn't based on location because you point to the same satellite no matter where you are.

I stopped paying for it because it was COSTLY for what you get plus, when on the move in the truck, it would cut out when I drove under a tree...and it's not like Muskoka has many trees......:wink:

It's the radio, not who or where you are located. The satellite is the same, it's just what they "pickup" that is different.

Come to think of it, when I activated my XM radio I don't remember having to give them an address. I know they had it because they send me the bills but is it even necessary? I can't remember.....

So I called Sirius Canada and got this bitchie broad on the phone who proceeded to tell me in a highly annoying tone "If you bought the car in Canada you're stuck with Canadian sirius, now arent you"??!

^^^^^ but only if you use the indash sirius radio....there's plenty of aftermarket ones you can simply add to your system.....

The ripoff about satellite radio is that is you do have one indash, you have to buy another plan entirely if you want it in your house....you should be allowed to have 2 radios on one plan, one for home, one for auto because you can't listen to the car one in your home.....

Unfortunately a lot of new vehicles come with the radio built in and the ugly antenna on the roof. If I had a choice I would have ordered my truck without it......

it may work all over north america but it doesn't work under trees, bridges, or if something is blocking your line of sight to the satellite......unlike celestial radio where the signal can go around these objects....

How long have you had it? I ask because like celestial radio, each channel has a preset playlist. I used to listen to the boneyard while in the shop working and if you listen for an entire dj's shift, then another, you hear the same songs over and over and over and over again. Couple that with the fact that they don't have contracts with ALL musicians to play their music, you don't hear a lot of bands. For eg: on the boneyard, you won't hear rob zombie, metallica, def leppard, kiss, etc. Come to think of it, I don't even recall hearing any van halen either......

One channel I did really enjoy is raw dog. I'd throw that on when driving to toronto and it'd make the trip 10x faster.....although I bet some people in the other cars wondered what i was on laughing my ass off while driving down the 400 lol......

Except for a few small spots its very good. Yonge and College has a few dead spots, and also around First Canadian place. But its not really an issue

I had Sirius for 5 months now and I'm loving it.

I also been up north around Lake Rosseau and its worked fine even under large trees

it works well in most larger cities because they have repeaters so you don't need LOS to the satellite....
