How do you start a conversation?

I usually walk up to a lady in a bar.
I bring a drink in hand.
I put one arm around their shoulder, place the drink in front of them.
Look into their eyes and say:

I am hoping in giving you this drink, you will give me 5 minutes of your time.

It works 60% of the time and I probably get laid 10% of the time. That's acceptable in my world.

Make sure you approach her when she's alone. Pay her a compliment, slip her your number possibly, and move on like you have some place other to be but went out of your way to talk to her. And whatever you do, don't look back!

Naturally, because the skid marks are harder to see.

As for opening lines...Dunno, I typically don't go out to such social settings. Even if I did, I'd quickly retreat into myself, and end up sitting in the corner, watching everyone else enjoy themselves. (Yes, even at parties like the one earlier this year). But it's not like any ladies would be sending me "come hither" glances. (Before some one comments on that. This is deeply held 'belief' that yes causing me great difficulty to even shift)

But I do agree with Rebecca, IMO KISS is best. But again I have no personal proof of that
