How long do you hold grudges?

I just got over one. Took me a couple of days. It was a family member so let it go. But if it was not, not sure how long I would have been pissed off.

Comments?.

I don]t

I have my say and you have yours.
then let it go.

Life is far to short to let anything short of life threatening to put that much effort into.

I don't hold grudges. I have written family members and so-called friends out of my life for not respecting me or the people who are near and dear to me. But if any of them were to ever come to me truly apologetic and taking responsibility for their actions, they would be welcomed into my life like nothing had ever happened.

Grudges hold no long-term value. I don't hold them. However, if I don't trust someone because they've backstabbed me, they seldom get a second chance.

I don't hold any......I can not.....If there was an argument, I like talking it out...
Sometimes I really mess up...I am not prefect but I always say sorry....

There are times I say sorry because I really like the person and I do not want to loose their
friendship over something that is not important......

I like to believe the best in people, so second and third chances happen. Once i decide that someone is hopeless, or simply evil, they're done and there is no going back as far as I'm concerned.

Forgive, and let go, but never forget.

One of the problems with grudges is that they smoulder inside, consume our serenity, and the object of our "affection" could be at the other end of of town, blissfully unaware of how we feel, yet in a sense they are running our emotional life. Not a great proposition.

Well said!

With the concussions I have had my short term memory is just shot.

But on the bright side I really don't remember from one day to the next why I'm upset with somebody.

See there is a silver lining after all I guess.

Rawd and celticman summed it up best.

Yes I've been angry at people and usually by the next day it's put behind me. Rarely do I hold anger inside, I'll vent it out and let it go but I never will forget what was done until those responsible apologize and then prove themselves.

I think it depends on the transgression. I can think of one special someone whom I will hold a grudge against for life.

Much depends on context too. If someone fucks me over in a business context, I'll hire a lawyer and then return to nursing my beer. I tend to assume that people will act in their own best interest when it comes to business. It's a game, and we all play it.

In a personal context, especially if there has been explicit promises of loyalty and love...that kind of breach of trust is difficult to repair. I'll go to the wall for people I love. Damn right I expect more than "shit happens" in return.
