I can do a six pack in one hour to get the right buzz. You?

A new editorial published Monday in the Canadian Medical Association Journal, one of the country's top medical publications, says the country's binge drinking problem is getting out of control and that it's time for a wake-up call.

Nearly nine per cent of Canadians have reported binge drinking, according to the editorial, and the majority of them were between ages 15 and 24. In other countries, binge drinking rates are as high as 90 per cent for men and 65 per cent for women, which could signal that binge drinking in Canada may continue to rise.

Binge drinkers, according to the report, constitute men who consume five drinks or more in a sitting or women who consume four drinks or more in a sitting.
It may come as a surprise, but people who binge drink are twice as likely to suffer a heart attack, for instance, than a daily heavy drinker. Binge drinking is also linked to violence, injuries and unsafe sex.

Many experts say the growth in global binge drinking rates is due to the increasing availability of alcohol, cheap prices and advertising.

As I get old I am becoming a light weight

I try to stick to 2 per hour and a tweener

I haven't has a drink in 25 yrs or so.

Just gave it up when I saw that I was getting into to much trouble.

If I had two or three right now I would most likely be on my ass.

Kudos to you Maurice. Not too many folks have the will power to do that. Why so much missery for families and friends. You quit cold turkey or did you ask for help?.

I thought everything was okay until I went to a AA meeting and then it occurred to me that I had a lot in common with those folks, lol.

I went to two more meetings and then I made up my mind that alcohol just wasn't a good choice for me.

Quit cold turkey was very interesting for the first three months or so. I don't preach about it. My problem was that I couldn't stop at 1 or 2.

Just looking for a nice buzz, not get loaded. :drunk:

Man, I can drink beer and wine like it's water although I do save the binge drinking for special occasions.

HA HA HA you little blue bastard!!:whip:

I just popped open a cold Alexander Keith"s India Pale Ale, popped open my lazy boy recliner and tuned into CBC.

Go Caps Go!!

I will not surpass three drinks in one hour and if I'm driving maximum one although I don't think even that's allowed anymore.

Sloshed off 4 beers in two hours, but can drink a 26er in 4 and still be moderately sober. That being said, I drink 1-2 glasses of wine a day, but very rarely anything more.

I use to be able to down a 26er in one night but now its a no go zone. I'm watching my waistline. Speedos weren't looking like they use too.

I don't think I've tried to see since about the 90s. :)

If I'm drinking, and there's nobody in a position of relative authority around, I'll drink a fair bit. If I'm 'fast drinking' I'll be drinking 3 or 4 beer in an hour. I'm sure I could drink far more than in an hour, but I much prefer to just sip away at my wine or my beer (maybe with the odd shot of tequila or shooters). If I have 3 or 4 shots, I'm right back to sipping. I much prefer to meter my buzz and ride out the night and have fun.

I see nothing fun about blacking out, passing out, falling down, getting sick, or being hungover. I do enjoy a good drunk. I act accordingly.
