I have been smoking cigarettes, a pack a day of for 25 years and still alive.

No lung cancer or clogged arteries etc... Just had a major check up and I am healthy.

I am as surprised as you are.

I know it can kill you but am I the exception or is it just wrong mass media information?.

Your killing everybody else around you when you smoke are you still proud of yourself? Karma will catch up to you.

Knowing that you're healthy is the best time to quit. It will catch up to you.

Oops...or what Ms. Sarah already said.

Good for you. Of course, not everyone who smokes will develop issues. But the clinical studies show the odds of contracting major issues such as chronic pulmonary disease or cancer increase dramatically when you smoke (or have smoked). The World Health Organization recently issued a notice that they expect the rate of cancer deaths to increase dramatically in the next decade. Half of those could be avoided by not smoking or drinking to excess.

You makes your choices, you takes your chances. I hope you defy the odds I wish you good health and long life without issue. Just please don't smoke around me...

It will catch up with him. If not him, maybe somebody he loves, like a child or grandchild.

Someone very close to me had to be interned at a retirement home when she was 60 because of a terrible and fatal brain disease called progressive supra nuclear palsy. I would visit her as much as I could.

I started taking note that there would be a few residents smoking outside while the other hundreds of patients were busy inside the facility.

So I queried a staff worker one day why there were so few smoking outside during my visits as opposed to the vast majority that stayed inside.

She looked at me and said '' All the smokers didn't make it this far''. She was right. I visited that facility for 5 years and figured that at least 90% of the residents did not smoke and furthermore the non smokers were the ones with the most vitality.

Listen everyone has heard about that one person who drinks like a fish and smokes two packs a day that is still going in their 90's but the reality is this is extremely rare.

are you really sure freedom of choice exists with a smoker?
nicotine is addictive. do drug addicts really have freedom of choice?
isn't this more like a compulsion
do you think a coke-head has freedom of choice? really?
a heroin addict? really?
you might think that you are in control of this situation and freely choose to smoke-
but tell me how you feel if you couldn't smoke for a couple of hours or a day, eh?

There are people who suffer terribly from smoking...and there are others that smoke and live to be a hundred years old with no issues. It's still the choice of the smoker and no business of yours!

Would you like to look at this kind of argument in terms of the sex industry? There are plenty of people out there who suffer terribly because of the sex industry and it dark side of human slavery....would you argue as hard to ban it? Or can you accept that it's a person's choice to get into the sex industry (on either side) and they are responsible for their own choices and the consequences that go with them?

Here's a video for you...does it tell the whole story of the sex industry?

I see your point but these two things are not the same. Both can be an addiction/affliction even, but smoking is anything near to human trafficking. Drinking is the only addiction, imo, that equals smoking. I won't argue that the sex industry is addictive.

My point has nothing to do with addiction (and some would argue that the sex trade does have its addicts). It's about choosing what you want to do and how you want to live your life.

If I choose to smoke, and do so responsibly (not exposing others to second hand smoke in confined spaces) then why shouldn't I be allowed to?

If someone chooses to participate in the sex trade, and does so willingly, they why shouldn't they be allowed to do so.

My measuring stick for anything being legal is that the person is an adult (18+ seems fair), is participating of their own free will and is not hurting others while doing so.

This can apply to gun ownership, gambling, drugs, sex, whatever.

As long as we are not in a police state, you are correct. You have the ability to choose what to smoke, wear, have sex with, what drugs to take, and so on. As you say, if you do not impact others, there should not be an issue. And on that, we completely agree!

Hey smokers. If this doesn't make you switch nothing else will.
