This is the next generation who has been told for decades now that they are all special and deserve whatever they FEEL they should have regardless of effort, skill, etc. They think they have the RIGHT to this and that. My response was, but they are anti business, and the now retired teacher, who was making $90,000 for 9 months of 6 HR days "work" response was, maybe there should be more anti business.

I responded, but that's where your gold plated retirement comes from, her reply, I have a teachers retirement plan.
Don't know how it is in the US, but the teachers retirement funds comes primarily from returns of profits from, wait for it, business.

I kid you not, I did not make this up, had to really make an effort not to laugh.

You can say whatever you want about him "taking advantage of the system" but the fact is 1) you'll never know nor could you prove it and 2) even if he did then what's your solution? For him to become sick and homeless? How would you know he is "sound mind and good health"? Are you the psychiatrist who have been diagnosing his health? From the looks of things he's just an average guy who is studying engineering and business, didn't have success with his grades, and couldn't get any job because of it (getting a job is NOT easy). Because shit happens? You're a heterosexual male right? God forbid if an accident ever happens to you. Actually why not just don't have sex at all; unless you get a vasectomy the condom is not always 100% effective and you'll never know when an "oops" moment will arrive.

The kid that disrespects his parents, refuses to learn anything, trashes his school, refuses to get a job, refuses to learn how to take care of themselves in any way shape or for. Is there always an excuse? Is it ever just that the person has no will to better their situation?

In nature, if an organism refuses to make an effort to find food, shelter, etc. it will eventually become food for predators or for decomposers. Some people are choosing to live as parasites on others. They shouldn't be surprised when the "host" decides to have the parasite removed.

I believe in harm reduction. Say what you want about the 30-year old man but the solution is NOT for him to live in a ditch for the rest of his life. On top of that you don't know the man - on what grounds do you believe all the above that you said - that he disrespects his parents, trashes his school, refuses to learn anything, etc? This man made it to engineering, so from the looks of it he seems like a very bright man.

We're not living like turtles and alligators where the survival of the fittest wins. We are human living in a civilized society. If someone is in distress who needs financial support they are entitled for support. Instead of arguing who's the parasite and who isn't maybe you should question this capitalistic society and ask yourself why is it that the success of an individual is solely dictated on their wealth and money?
