President Barack Obama addressed supporters in Roanoke, Virginia on Friday afternoon and took a shot at the business community. President Obama dismissed any credit business owners give themselves for their success:

There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me -- because they want to give something back. They know they didn’t -- look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there.

It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something -- there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there. (Applause.) If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive.

Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business -- you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.

The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together. There are some things, just like fighting fires, we don’t do on our own. I mean, imagine if everybody had their own fire service. That would be a hard way to organize fighting fires.

Couldn't resist but I'm not really into American politics. Truth be told its dreary and boring. It took them a year to pick Romney and now they have another 6 months of windbagging. We know that with the exception of about 5 or 6 states everyone is going to vote the same as the last time.

I know a lot of successful people and they have been helped by lots of other people - the people that work for them for example.
But I'll tell you one thing, pendejo: when at the end of the day, you have to meet payroll and to do so you had to tighten up your belt one notch while the employees made sure that they got theirs at days end..... you don't owe it to anyone.

You see the same horsehit here where the Government sees small business as some endless pocket that they get to randomly pick at their discretion.

During one reporting period last year the employment rolls in the the United States went up almost the exact same number as small business closures. As a small business owner I've often said "Fuck it I'll go out find a job and get a full nights sleep instead of this horseshit."

So true my son. Seriously, since I started my business I have never cracked the money I used to make as an employee. My first year I had to borrow money from friends and family. The bank would not lend me anymore and lost friends because I realized they weren't true friends. No one gave a shit if I had lost all my investments or that I slept only two hours per day.

At the end of the day I can walk up with my head up high and said I did it on my own.

WE pay for infrastructure through taxes. and guess what? If enterprise didn't thrive and succeed, there wouldn't be the tax revenues needed to support government! The government exists to serve the people. What a whack job.

I don't know if that's a fair statement. Perhaps they weren't as close as you thought, but it doesn't mean that they are friends.

I have a rule - I don't loan money to friends that I couldn't afford to lose. It's a lesson I've learned being on the other side. I had a friend who was in a jam; absolutely broke (no money for rent, eating crackers once a day). So I volunteered to help this person out They adamantly insisted that it be a loan. I helped this person out several more times after that. Now, Im glad to say that this person is back on their feet, life looking bright and in fact probably making far more than I am. Ask me whether I've received a dime on my "loan". I don't begrudge the situation. It is what it is. But the friendship clearly was't one of mutual respect and loyalty.

You see both these individuals (10 years + as friends) who are well off offered me help beforehand. "If you are ever in a jam I can help you with some cash flow etc..". When I ask they said I will get back to you and never did. I learned my lesson too.
