And By that I mean more-so than usual...

I have home and car insurance for 2 vehicles with the same company. I have had the same insurance company for 30 years- ever since I started driving...

I was advised a month or so ago that "we are changing the way we calculate home insurance, and we need to ask a number of questions" which I answered honestly and accurately... A few weeks later I get a notice that my rates are increasing for all my policies by 50%!!!! WTF! :gasp:

I realize that every situation is different, but I have 1 speeding ticket on my driving record, (that one I got LY in the USA), Mrs. CG has none, haven't had a claim since 2001 on either auto policy, (when some guy rear ended Mrs. CG) and only 1 on my home policy LY when my bike was stolen...

So WTF is REALLY going on here? :grrrrrr:

Runaway, rampant and unchecked corporate greed.
Yes, pretty much. There's also accusations of collusion going on between the big insurance companies.

My best advice is to bundle all your policies with one company.
(eg. Fire, cars, business, property, house valuables, boat, cottage.....etc)

That way they wanna keep you and they try to make you happy

Start phoning around and do some price shopping.

I like to work these f#rkers against each other as much as possible.

That's what I am doing... but no boat and no cottage... Been with them for 30 years!

My agent, who is actually a really nice woman is checking into all the angles for me, but I have started checking around... and is also why I started this thread. Any body have a reputable company (Is this even possible in the insurance biz?) they are dealing with?

I haven't had my rates increase, but then I don't live in a city so I think that affects my rates a bit.

CG

I tried to fix the title of this thread but it won't allow me.

the title should be : Is everyone getting shafted by their insurance company

imho you should change insurance companies every 4 years

I've heard this theory before.... The rationale being they'll bend over backwards for new clients in the hopes of signing new long term customers and then shafting the loyal ones later when they're not expecting it.... :grrrrrr:

The insurance companies with the help of the Provincial government have become total thieves. Same thing is happening to me and my record is spotless with no claims at all. I too have been with the same company for 15 years.

I have started shopping around but it does seem that some collusion is definitely going on. I think collusion is allowed if you own an Oil company and Insurance company.

Simply put they are criminals. Insurance is mandatory in Canada, this amounts to extortion!

Ah yes, insurance companies, an industry that has been given a license to steal, no correct that, they have been ordered to steal, by the government of Premier McSquinty.

As for CG’s increase, WELCOME TO ONTARIO, with the highest auto insurance rates in North America, and some of the highest in the world for that matter. I am on another board that deals with my specific make of car (a little German thing that owners love yapping about). The posters come from all over Canada the US and many from Europe and Australia. Everyone is uniformly amazed at the royal ass fucking that the posters in Ontario take for their insurance.

I am an old dude with a perfect driving record of many decades and I pay 5 TIMES more then a 20 something in Texas, double to triple of folks in England and Norway. Oh, yes, let’s not forget, WE GET LESS COVERAGE.

On September 1, 2010 the payouts for injuries were massively cut.

The lying bastard politicians then said that this was done in order to give consumers more choice. Pay more money for less coverage, and it is mandated by law that you pay and this was to help consumers. Reminds me of the story of the guy who was about to be gang raped in prison, in order to be nice, they let him pick who of the 10 guys lined up got to go first, some choice.

For example medical rehab for whiplash and back injuries when you are rear ended by a drunk driver are now capped at $3,500. Go to a good quality physiotherapy clinic and that simply is not enough to cover treatment. Your wage losses are limited to $400 per week. I have a suspicion that most people here actually earn far more than $400 a week.

If you actually ever need coverage, good luck. Some idiot in a call centre in bum-fuck-astan will tell you a garbage story and deny coverage (many people give up at this point and their premiums are pure profit). If you complain a lot, then you may get an offer of 30 cents on the dollar (the vast majority of people take this), if you sue the insurance company and when then you simply get what you should have received at the beginning without all the torture, less of course 50% of your legal fees since the court’s idea of legal fees and the real world’s idea of legal fees are not quite N-Sync.

Hit by a drunk driver, tough shit the deductible comes out of your pocket and you better have paid extra for being hit by an uninsured motorist because Larry the Lush is not covered if he was impaired at the time of the accident.

If you had a serious injury then you have real problems. Your insurance will be capped and Larry the Lush is deemed to have no insurance, you might get $200K from a provincial fund, let’s see how long will that last with $100,000 a year out of pocket medical expenses. Hmmmmm, I’m using my fingers and toes to figure this out, and I come up with 2 years, but I bet you will still be in that wheel chair and pissing through a tube after the 2nd year.

I could go on and on for several more pages, but you get the idea. Insurance law is a complete specialty area onto itself that many lawyers and judges are not fully familiar with. If you read the fine print in your home owner’s policy the number of exclusions for why the raping blood suckers do not have to pay you is amazing. But if you miss a payment, bang policy cancelled and then your mortgage company will be on you like white on rice, get insurance OR ELSE.

I've lived in Ontario my entire life... so it would stand to reason I've been getting butt-raped the entire time... but why all of a sudden a 50% rate increase now?

BECAUSE THEY CAN

**adds Insurance companies to list of fuckers I hate**

Politicians
Lawyers (all but a very select few...)
Bankers
Child Murderers/ molestors
Michael Bryant (Although he falls into the politicians category- he gets his own special mention) :grrrrrr:
A certain footwear buyer at a national retail chain who shall remain nameless...

I bet its not her doing the price raising, I bet she's just a broker and whomever she's contracted with is raising your rates

I know you're a cycler big guy, but that whole accident wasnt Bryant's fault. That guy (sheppard or whatever) was a nutcase who had everything coming to him

That's not why I hate him...

I hate him because regardless of who the guy was, Bryant took the life of another human using a vehicle as his weapon. And as predicted (by myself at the time of the accident) because of his standing with the police and politicians, he got off scott free... If it were any ordinary Joe, there would have been SOME sort of repercussion even if the other guy "was a nutcase who had everything coming to him". Vehicular Manslaughter?

Who says there's not a double standard?

I have heard excuses like 9/11, a hurricane somewhere in the Atlantic, and New Orleans.

My question was DUDE I live in Ontario, WTF does that have to do with me?

"well sir, we have a pool of funds so all of us are hurting from the natural disasters."

NOW you tell me they pay less in the US!!:grrrrrr: Scammers, crooks assholes!!!!

We should have a tea party revolution against the government and the insurance companies!

Sorry I couldn't find a Canadian version because we're bloody sheeps!:grrrrrr:

Mass insurance Brokers, they've saved me thousands over the years and the "change your company every 4 yrs is bang on"......what I've found is the rates tend to start creeping up with their annual increases and your current rate is often a LOT more than someone who just signed on.

That 1 speeding ticket will kill you though. Insurance companies will pounce on that like it was a DUI and hike their rates accordingly.

BTW: I realized a 40% price saving (truck insurance) since I moved up north.....

Oh, and not to keep harping on it, but your Honda pseudo truck is probably more costly to insure than my real truck.......(I guess cuz they know it'll fold like a deck of cards if you get into a fender bender).
