Happened to me twice in Toronto. Twice in Vancouver. Lame. Sometimes it just better to leave your car unlocked and make sure you have nothing there. It sucks..

This is the first time it has happened to me. They smashed the window, stole a bunch of things. I have been extremely inconvenienced. Nothing like going into exam time with no laptop, textbook or notes.

Did you leave your laptop exposed? They usually break in if they catch a glimpse of valuable items.

So sorry to hear about this. Trust you've alerted the Dean of Students, even if this happened off campus. There may be ways in which the school can "adjust" in your favor considering the circumstances.

Had my CD player stolen from my car at lunchtime in the company parking lot. Smashed the window and damaged the door trim.

What really pissed me off was that they didn't simply slash the convertible top, which was due for replacement anyhow. Would much rather have had insurance provide a new top than a new window.

Replacement CD player had a pop-off face, which presumably you remove to prevent thieves from getting interested in breaking in. Never did remove that face. Never had another break-in.

I had my car broken into last year. I made the mistake of leaving my phone on the seat. It is disheartening but I was told by the officer it was my own fault for leaving the phone behind.
