TORONTO - Police say a 27-year-old participant in a Toronto marathon has died.
A police spokesman says the man collapsed late this morning during the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon.
The man was transported to St. Michael's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police say the reason for the man's collapse isn't yet known

I thought it would be 100 year old Fauja Singh!

Runners keep fit and eat tons of carbs before the race but they forgot one thing.

Sometimes the heart cannot take it.

I was in danger of being trampled to death by some runners this morning. I tried crossing the street to go for breakfast, it felt like being in a real life game of Frogger.

When your time is up, it is up. The man was 200 metres from finishing his 1/2 marathon race.

He was running shirtless and it was cold and raining. Does that matter?

No it wouldn't matter. He probably had coronary heart disease and didn't even know.

I'll take another flyer and say at least he went out doing something he loved. Still way too young though.

I didn't see any runners laughing or even smiling, it looked like self inflicted brutal torture to me. :gasp:

Pain and pleasure are related for some people but it sounds like a horrible way to go.

As a runner once you "hit the wall" many things can happen. Your brain can starve from oxigen or it confuses thing.

It is sad, 27 only.

It's bullshit that Guinness won't recognize the 100 year old dude as the oldest to finish a marathon. Isn't a British passport good enough?

He does not have a valid birth certificate.

Which words did you not understand?.

I don't have a birth certificate either, many countries or regions don't issue one.
I got my passport and later my Canadian citizenship by showing officials my baptism certificate. If you have a family Bible with a record of births that would also be considered.

But to get into the Guiness world records you must have one.

End of discussion.
