Mayor Ford Snubs gay pride once again

So the dude ate the Dirty Bird. Jack Layton was busted in a rub and tug and he is a hero.

I do like the man. If he were in any other party I would have voted for him without hesitation. I met him a couple of times, great guy. I have the utmost respect for him.

I'm sorry a 1 but anyone who makes a career out of politics is in my opinion a prick.
Never trust a politician.

Maybe but you have to hand it to him. He succeeded where many never gave him a chance.

Yeah and it only took Layton 35 years to succeed, which was, least we forget, finishing second.

As far as Ford is concerned I'n not sure why the guy can't spend Canada Day weekend at the cottage. Pride gets more mileage out of him not being there than being there and they milk far beyond what it's worth IMHO.

You would think they would want old Droolin' Dalton McQuinty there. He'd look much better in chaps. Seriously this has got to be 147th in line in terms of importance.

It's all political, if your right of centre you love Ford if you're left of centre you hate him. I personally love KFC and wish he had bought me a bucket of chicken!

Guido, your avatar demonstrates just how much you enjoy KFC!

Are the GLBT's of Toronto not constituents? There are 10 days of events during pride week that Fattie Ford could attend anyone of, but he's made his path and continues to demonstrate what an ignorant sub-human being he is.

As for the Canada weekend at the cottage, that's fine but he should treat constituents of Toronto equally. Wait he does, he treats all Torontians like shit!

He should have lost weight as Miller did and just show up slimmed down instead of boxing himself into a no win situation. Mind you Miller looked white, pasty and sickly when he did. As for snubbing gay pride he doesn't care one bit about the gay vote as his handlers and team feel he's never had it to begin with. His support is outside of the downtown core and they will rally around him even more if he stands his ground.

As somebody who thinks Ford should TOFTT, I'll concede that. Not going to Pride shows that Ford is a poor civic leader. Not figuring out that Pride will get mileage from Ford not going makes him a bad politician. It's not being 'tolerant' to let Ford go on his weekend, it's forgiving him for not preforming what is an informal expectation of the job. Now, somebody will undoubtedly say, 'Informal expectation, Bahh!'. All jobs have them, and most employers would view you as a bad employee if don't perform informal expectations that would be deemed reasonable by most people.

As far as the Jack Rub-N-Tug sidebar goes, the reason why his popularity went up after is because, a) 'the rule' in Canada has always been that a Pols private life is private unless they are being deeply hypocritical (and Canadians tend to cling to this rule), b) it was something dug up from the deep past to try to derail NDP momentum at the last minute and people saw it for as desperate and grubby as it was, and c) nobody actually knows what happened 'in the room', his wife seemed fine with it, AND in the many years before and after there's never been another reported 'incident' like it (only making it seem more unseemly). So, ummm, yeah...

Yah Sorry T.O.M. but if you go with the theory that Ford has to represent his constituents then I think that there are a lot more who DON'T go than who do.
If Ford does cave in on this one issue it then becomes the thin wedge for any interest group to claim a "snub" if he doesn't want to show up. Does anyone give a shit if Ford didn't go to a 1%er day - if one existed?

On the sheer basis of size and economic activity generated, the main parade and all of the pride week, make it a highly significant even whether you go or not. Heck, I usually make a point of going 'someplace else' on that day because I loath tightly packed crowds, and the 'someplace elses' are quiet because of the parade. I however, am not the mayor of Toronto.

Even if 'more don't go', you can't deny the size and the scope of the event in the life of the city. To 'not go' as mayor, can only be seen as a 'snub' (that has been well leveraged by Pride itself). Though it does play to a segment of his (ever shrinking) base.
