You ask why I participate here, and it is completely not any of your business, but I will tell you a story. Three years ago my husband, to whom I had been faithful for twenty years, abruptly walked out of my life and did not look back. At the time I had lived for years in a small town, my entire social/support structure involved his family. And when he disappeared, so did they.

I can't begin to describe the emotional devastation this caused me...I can only say that I have never been closer to suicide. Did anyone from the local church come by to see if I was okay? No they did not. It was people on a board like this one, most of them relative strangers to me, who took the time out of their lives to send me emails and private messages to make sure I was still functional. HOF in particular showed me great compassion, he called me every day to encourage me to get my ass out of bed, take a shower, and try somehow to take a step forward that day. I don't know how I would have gotten through those dark days without the support of those "misguided individuals." I only know that I have been shown far more kindness by sinners than I ever have been by saints.

You say you believe in a higher power, that's great. So do I. Mine places great importance on not judging others more harshly than you wish to be judged, and I try to live by that. In spite of my efforts I still find myself infuriated by self-righteous hypocrites who consider themselves better than other people, and who consider it their mission to decide what is right and what is proper for everyone else. That's not your place...and if you believe that it is, go start yourself up a little church and preach to those who come to you looking for saving. I don't need it, and neither does the rest of this board.
