People j walk all of the time. What's worse, they do it knowing cars are coming. And they seem to have this attitude that if they don't look at the car, it will definitely stop. Or if they do look, they give a sneer as if they know they are doing something wrong but that they know that the driver will stop because they don't want the trouble or guilt of running over someone.
Some people are even worse....you see them hurrying to get to the street, and then slow down their pace once you've stopped to let them cross.
I think it's just another symptom of society where people think that they can count on the generosity (or disinclination of people to harm others) to keep them safe. Why should you have to look both ways before crossing? Why walk all of the way to the cross walk way down there on the corner? They'll stop....they have to....I'm a pedestrian with no protection and they have that whole big car around them.
Where is natural selection on a mass scale when you need it?
