Last week I spend a day with a lovely young lady.
I drove her to Stratford to see a play in the afternoon as a birthday treat for her.
Then stopped off at a really nice hotel on the way back.
During the drive there we were listening to an opera, Rigoletto, and now I've somehow roped myself into taking her to an opera in the new year.
That's ok, I love opera. Rigoletto is on in Jan/Feb in Toronto.
In this scene the Duke is singing about how fickle women are while he flirts with a woman he's just met (who is the sister of an assassin who has been hired to kill him).
The woman looking in through the window is the woman he "loves". She ends up sacrificing herself to save the Duke's butt.
He sings the song once again (off stage) while she lies dying on the stage having saved his butt.
If Alanis Morissette is around... that's an example of "Dramatic Irony".
Ah, la maledizione!
