NEW ROUTER

Needless to say I recommend clients upgrade equipment every 5 years or so.

Of course as a professional I never do that.
Well today my router crapped out.....The wireless side went wonkie about a year ago and the wired went out today.

So I got me a Netgear AC 1750. ($109.00 at Best Buy)


I do not game so that suits my needs and then some.
Huge difference in connection speeds....Brought my wired side up to 1G from 100M.
The wireless side is AC and that matched my phone and lappy.

I run two redundant systems at home: two ISP connections, two routers, two switches, and so on. One goes down, simple fail-over.

I always recommend a redundant back-up when down time is an issue.
A UPS and Generator also...But a major power outage can take down the ISPs depending on their infrastructure....

I keep renting mine from Rogers cable. For $7 a month is worth it because if it breaks down they give me a new one.

Having redundant systems is crucial to my work, even from home, but most people don't need to go that far. Still, most people have a data plan on their phone and an ISP service at home, so that kinda counts for redundancy.

Agreed, but if all you want to do is read an email, check a stock price, or see when your favorite SP is available, a phone dataplan is enough. If you want to download a movie, not so much.
