So as usual around this time, everyone who wants to lose weight will make their new year's resolution to start Jan. 1

So I figured, why not start a new thread for the new year and anyone who wants to jump in, get some support, help keep some goals and maybe even have some friendly competition to help push and motivate each other to reach not only our desired weight, but to help with overall healthy eating and by default, healthy living.

As some know, I lost 30lbs in 2018. I don't really have a desire to lose more, maybe another 10-15 at most, but that doesn't mean that I don't want to keep eating healthy and keep this weight off.

Some of the things that I did:

1. I tried to go black coffee and couldn't but I did cut the sugar that I put in my coffee by half. I am still hoping to get to at least no sugar.

2. I didn't drink a lot of pop before, but I really made an effort to axe it out completely. I switched to water, OJ, and coffee or tea only.

3. I tried to cut out fast food. And I did a good job of it. I would go weeks without it. Then when I did have to go, because sometimes you just have to for whatever reason, I completely stopped ordering fries. I cut the burger from the large burgers they normally offer and went for the small one. So a whooper JR instead of a regular sized one and a cheeseburger made like a mac instead of a big mac.

4. Doing some of those helped me with portion sizing then at home too. I started grabbing the smaller plates instead of the big one. I would tell myself, "let me see how this settles first and if I am still hungry I can always eat more" My body was starting to feel better and I didn't want to go back to some of the feelings I had before, so this helped create that mindset of "wait and see how eating this will affect me."

5. I started eating very thin sliced bread. Weight watchers actually.

I didn't actually do any exercise except walking my dogs. This year, I wouldn't mind adding some exercise to my plan. I have a nice exercise machine that I would like to wipe the dust off of. LOL

So that is me or right now. Anyone else what to get in on this action? Post your goals and what you would like to see yourself doing this year to get a healthier better you.

I lost 25 lb in 6 months by eating what I want but nothing after 7 pm. Worked for me.

Not to brag, but I have been eating healthy for decades, and although "mature", chronologically anyway, am on absolutely no medication, and my blood pressure is perfect.

No "pop".
Only whole grain breads and cereal.
Junk food, maybe once a month.
A small plate of fruit a poached egg and glass of fruit smoothie for breakfast.
A fruit in the afternoon.
No processed food, except the odd sausage on the barbie in the summer.
Black coffee, I got my SO to drop the sugar by slowly decreasing it to nothing, didn't notice, now prefers to actually taste COFFEE.
Vegetables with lunch and dinner, red meat, steak, every two weeks, a lot of fish and chicken.

Exercise is obviously important, not just for weight, but exercising alone will not correct a weight issue, without eating right.

Sorry for the rant, but it upsets me to see people ruining their health, not enjoying life to the full, thinking medication "fixes" health issues, and costing the health care system, me, Millions.

Type 2 diabetes is a good example, which is totally avoidable, and even corrected, then and be able to have desert and a glass of wine again, but why bother, the government will pay for medication, and I will die sooner than healthy people anyway.

Pizza is healthy and so is lasagna. Just depends how much of it you eat.

Actually it really depends on what the ingredients are.

Some would say that spaghetti is healthy, not even close if the "sauce" is butter.

Right on that. Eat pasta with tomato sauce without cheese, no gain there.

On the other hand....if you give up too many pleasures, are you really living? I like the saying about living fast and coming sliding into your grave feet first saying "that was one hell of a ride!". Although I do use moderation. You don't have to give up everything you enjoy to have a good life.

I don't give up any pleasures, by eating great healthy food.

As per my example of my SO now drinking her coffee black, she doesn't miss drinking a hot cup of sugar and cream, prefers the taste of coffee, knowing that it is also healthier.

But becoming a type 2 diabetic, would mean that I would be giving up a lot of pleasures.

Not taking high blood pressure and cholesterol medication, with all of the negative side effects, and living a longer and more satisfying life, is a better ride for me.

Don't get me wrong, I, like a most European cultures, have a built in craving for a quick source of unhealthy energy, animal fat for example, but am responsible enough to realize, its just another unhealthy temptation that I can, and need to ignore.

Another example would be, I enjoy good booze, have a lot of it in my bar, but I look at the big picture and will do without that ounce of 12 year old rum today, and be healthy enough to enjoy it another day.

Some can eat all type of junk foods and not gain an ounce. Others have a bag of chips and there comes a pound. But do beware once you hit your later years as your body changes and not always for the better.

Also, even though some may not gain as much weight as others from junk food, they as you seam to indicate, will have other issues like clogged arteries, I know relatively young, slim men and women that have to be on medication for the rest of their lives because of this issue.

Which also means living with the side effects and restrictions that go with such medication.

Add on that unhealthy eating and smoking cigarettes will triple your changes of clogged arteries.

What surprises me is the number of relatively young people who started in the 1st place, and continue to do so, when one considers what we know is the result of smoking.

Not discounting what these people are costing me, the garbage they leave behind, and how utterly rediculos they look standing in a cold rainy day, getting their fix.

Not sure, but I think a carton of cancer sticks now costs over $100, and looking at some of the addicts, they sure as hell can't afford that.

Sorry for the rant, but this subject is so frustrating for me.

And don't get me started on Mr. Dress Up promoting smoking weed.
