Not our normal kind of thread but we have history here ........ Jingles reco'ed this place for me to take Asian Violet to. She absolutely loved it and it had become "our place" when she came to Ottawa. Another huge thanks to Jingles!

Since Violet is in China or Thailand or Malaysia at the moment ..... she went home and to tour these countries for a few months ...... I was in the mood for Thai food. I went to see Ming one of my asian milfs and she surprised me by telling the boss she wanted time off for shopping and we went there for dinner. No, she didn't pay! I've lost my touch I guess ..... last Ming I went to dinner with paid (Maggie of C&M).

So what's the fucking point here? Sad news .... the place is closing for good Jan 6. I don't know if anyone else tried it based on what we posted here so if you did and you liked it as much as Jingles, Violet, Ming and I do ....get yer ass over there! And if you haven't tried it maybe pop in before they close.

I already have an alternative for when Violet returns. I forgot I went to this place several years ago for lunch and it was very good. I was sitting in Nokham Thai looking around and suddenly realized this place reminded me of Nokham. [h=1]Aiyara Thai Cuisine[/h][COLOR=rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.87)]1590 Walkley Rd

Aiyara Thai Cuisine may be good food, but it sure isn't in a safe area with the infamous Heatherington Rd gang area so close. Daytime maybe but certainly not when it's night or dark, as it is now so early. Aside from that Thai food is great

Yesterday, we (me and the wife) were looking for a Chinese or Thai place, that wasn't Thai Express, and found it was hard to find Chinese or Thai standalone places anymore, near our place. We ended up actually in a completely different kind of restaurant, we went to a place called Duna, a "European" restaurant, probably Hungarian or Polish. Didn't like it, still was craving for Thai afterwards.

There is one Thai place we go to somewhat, but it's not too near our place, so we didn't feel like going all of that way over. That's the Green Papaya on Baseline Rd., across from the Walmart. It used to be a Chinese restaurant previously, called Mandarin Court, we came originally for Chinese here, and stayed even when it converted to Thai.

Interesting, if this is the Duna place in Bells Corners, they were in Blackburrn Hamlet until the end of August this year. They were just take-out and everyone raved about their schnitzel. It's a man (England) and wife (Hungarian, I think) operation with the man doing the cooking but the recipes are all from the woman's family back home. They had some weird stuff but it was pretty good. The building they were in was being renovated for some other use (still under construction) so they found this place, I think he said on Robertson Road.

Maybe I need to go there for lunch one day and pop into Paradise Spa for dessert to see what it tastes like! 😀

Yup, it was in Bells Corners. I had previously thought it was a Turkish restaurant previously, but found this place instead. It was a very short menu, just two pages.

BR, there is a new Chinese restaurant in the strip mall on Merivale where there Basics, Bulk Barn and SDM are. I have not tried it yet.

Sorry to hear Nokham Thai is closing, it has been around for years. Also, Wong's on Carling in Bayshore closed at the end of November.

Wong's closed? That was where we were originally trying to go, and saw that it was closed! I didn't check to see if it was permanently closed or just closed for the day. That's when we ended up in Duna.

Gee lots of Chinese places closing, and also a few years ago the Lucky Key on Carling by Westgate closed, those names are very nostalgic to hear. So Asian restaurants are closing, but Asian spas are opening instead...both have various menu options to choose from though. Did the famous Golden Palace on Carliong close too, the one who had the best egg rolls anywhere?

Golden Palace is still open but it is overated. Prices have gone up while the quality has gone down.

I'm sorry but this made me laugh my ass off! I get it that you guys have lived sheltered lives up here but this place is not in the housing developments where the gangs are, just nearby. Then again, being from the big bad US I am not afraid in the least to go to Vanier or the Heatherington area. You guys don't really know what dangerous is. Or maybe I'm a raving lunatic with no fear? :-Cool/"

If you guys are looking for a good Chinese place try Brother Wu at 1060 St Laurent Blvd. C&M asked me to take them there years ago (yes, they paid lol) and I have been going ever since. If you want good Chinese, go where the Chinese go! Funny thing is the owner was a customer of C&M, after they were deported he came up to me and asked about them. He has to be discreet because his wife works with him there! He really liked Ming (Maggie) and knows I am in touch with her and asks about her if his wife is not around.

I love their sweet and sour pork, awesome beef noodle soup is on the lunch menu but he will serve it to me whenever I am there, Connie used to get hers with "tendon" (cartilage ... yuk!) and if there was chunks of meat she would put them in my bowl and if I found tendon in mine I would give it to her lol. Good times. Love their steamed dumplings as well.

Wow, the places C&M took me to .... .esp in Toronto! I doubt I'll ever stop missing these two, for many many reasons. I'm gonna go cry now ..........
:Crying/:

The real Chinese food is scary to us brought up in the "West", even those of us who born slightly to the west in the South Asian areas. The range of stuff they eat was unbelievable. Them and the French, who also seem to eat a lot of stuff that none of us would think of eating.

That reminds me of when I was living near Seattle, I was training a Korean guy who was a new hire and we went to a Chinese place for lunch. He starts chatting with the owner, turns out the Chinese restaurant was run by Koreans! She brings him a special menu and the next thing you know he has a huge bowl of soup with baby octopus in it. Asks me if I want to try ... no effin way! He explained that she was from the same region of Korea as he was from, she wouldn't have offered the special menu if he wasn't. So Chinese restaurants aren't always run by Chinese, they know most westerners can't tell the difference.

I looked in C&M's fridge once, they had packs of chicken feet in there. WTF do you do with them, they have no meat? She said she makes soup, it is for flavor. So yeah, they eat all sorts of weird shit. I went in TnT a couple times, scary stuff in there besides the mostly normal stuff. But they do have clams and not the bearded ones! I love clams and they are not readily available around here, or if the are they are huge ones best suited for soup.

I'd go to T&T just to see so many Asian girls there, and some are hot whenever I've gone. I walk down the isles wondering how many are unshaved...probably most...lol

It's the same with Indian restaurants, many of them are actually run by Bangladeshis or Sri Lankans or Pakistanis. I've also noticed that Vietnamese run a lot of Chinese restaurants, and Koreans also run a lot of Japanese restaurants. The neighbouring regions are close enough in cuisine to pass for that cuisine.

Talking about T&T, there's a new spa in the mall (222 Hunt Club, Unit 3) called Time Foot Bar Spa, timefootbar.ca. The place is owned by Kelly who I know well from Le Spa on Bank. Late 30's, fantastic massage and nice hj. Intel also says there might be a "Candy" working there. She's a bit older and a friend of Kelly the owner. She also gives a great massage and is more open with her options but no fs. I haven't seen Candy, YET. If anyone gets to check the place out, let me know how it goes. I probably won't get to go until the New Year. Busy and a friggin long "to see" list.
