IT is true after all.

New England Medical Journal reports that a 42-year-old man’s penis broke during sexual intercourse with a woman.

The man was taken to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in the city of Boston in Massachusetts complaining that he had suffered excruciating pain in his penis while trying to make love to his partner.

In his rampant desire to have sex, the man said he missed his mark and slammed his penis into his partner’s crotch, just below her genitalia.

The action was met with a sickening “snap” as he fractured his tunica albuginea, the watertight, fibrous sheath that surrounds the double-barrelled structure that stiffens with blood during an erection, Dr Robert J. Hartman wrote.

The penile fracture caused a haematoma and blood flooded the man’s penis, turning it a ghastly purple, as NEMJ show, with blood coming out in the tube in which a man passes urine.

The man was taken for emergency surgery.

He was discharged the morning after surgery and was seen three and six months after surgery.

Dr Hartman said that the man could have suffered erectile dysfunction, a curved penis and possible nerve injury.
