Some people might argue, tboy, that they would rather die than spend their life horribly disfigured.
That may be true but there is a HUGE difference between getting bit in the ankle by a jack russell and getting mauled to death by a pitbull. I don't want to argue but it is simply L U D I C R O U S to even suggest that.

Just because a person doesn't DIE by a dog bite, does not make the attack any less grievous. Regardless of breed, I might add.

Dog bites SUCK. No matter the breed, OR level of injury.
So you're saying getting bit by a rottweiler is no worse than a bite from a shih tzu?

Highlighting two words in different sentences in my post does not change what I wrote in the first place.
I'm not going to stoop to tossing out insults, suffice to say that I don't have to change anything you wrote I simply highlighted the key words. You plainly stated that dying from dog bites isn't any worse than a single bite...which was and still is, ludicrous......

Pit bull kills border collie in Toronto park
If a pit bull destroys my dog like that plus walking a young child who could have been in danger. I say throw the owner in jail for a minimum of 5 and feed the dog to the crocodiles.
TORONTO - A west end grandmother is devastated after her border collie, Lucy, was mauled to death by a pitbull in front of her 12-year-old granddaughter.
Noemi Stefenatti was walking through Douglas Ford Park around 1:30 p.m. Thursday on her way back to her home on Leggett Ave., near Royal York Rd. and Lawrence Ave. W., with her granddaughter Serena when the raging dog suddenly attacked.
“He came over the bridge like a bullet,” the senior said of the pitbull.
Little Serena was holding Lucy’s leash when the pitbull grabbed the border collie by the neck with its teeth, a grief-stricken Stefenatti recalled.
“We were both screaming and screaming,” she said, fighting back tears. “As much as we were shocked, Lucy was even more shocked.”
“She didn’t fight back at all, the poor animal,” Stefenatti added.
Fearful the dog may turn on Serena, she yelled at her granddaughter to “run away.”
Once Serena was safe, Stefenatti grabbed Lucy’s leash and tried to pull her free from the clenches of the pitbull. But she couldn’t save the eight-year-old dog she had owned since she was a puppy.
She said the bloody attack lasted more than 10 minutes.
“When Lucy was dead, the other dog walked away,” Stefenatti said. “He sat in the shade for a bit, then he ran away.”
By the time Toronto Police arrived the killer dog was nowhere to be found.
“Officers searched the area but weren’t able to locate the pitbull,” Const. Wendy Drummond said, explaining the search was called off as night fell.
Stefenatti said the pitbull is dark brown with lighter-coloured hair around its collar area. It is a medium-sized dog with a stocky build and it was wearing a thick burgundy collar.
“I really hope they find that dog before it attacks again,” she said, adding a child could be the next victim.
Stefenatti said her granddaughter is traumatized by the “terrible experience.”
“I told Serena there was nothing we could do and it wasn’t our fault,” she said.
Although the breed was banned in Ontario in 2005, those who already owned a pitbull were allowed to keep their dog. But owners of the “grandfathered” pitbulls were ordered to have their pet sterilized as well as leashed and muzzled at all times in public.
Police are urging the owner of the offending dog to come forward.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the pitbull in question should contact 23 Division at 416-808-2300 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS.

He may have escaped and the owners may have been looking for their dog. I'm not defending the pit, I think they can be lethal but we don't know the mind set of the owner yet.
Many claim it's a breed like any other breed but I think these dogs along with other breeds that can lock their jaws are much more dangerous.

as they say, there are no bad dogs, just bad owners......and many harp on pits being no worse than other dogs and they do get a lot of bad press (this story for example) but they are dangerous....more so than a shih tzu or a lhasa apso.......and I have yet to hear of a lab killing anyone or anything......
Hopefully someone who knows the owner will step forward, the real owner would be insane to say a word, he'll be charged and the dog put down.......

First and foremost, I hope that the little girl and her grandma will be okay after such a traumatic experience.
As much as I love dogs, there are breeds that are not meant to be pets. In addition, we just scrape the surface of what breeds are known. Outside North America, there are many breeds that are more vicious than any here.
In April of this year, I witnessed a South African Boerbol and Pitbull fight in a dog park. As I scooped my puppy and headed for the exit, I could hear the fight, the screams and found out later that the Boerbol finished the Pitbull.

It is a leash free dog park, located adjacent to the SPCA and Animal Control. What happened is that the owners, as a majority of them, were not near or watching their dogs and the fight ensued.

Yes, this park is adjacent to the SPCA and Animal Control! Suprisingly, there are more rules (bylaws) in the leash free zone than in the regular responsible dog owner's act for the City of Hamilton, but not like 99% read or know of them. Owners are to remain with their dogs at all times, not park their fat asses in chairs with McDonalds.
God, there are alot of bad dog owners and they don't have to own a dangerous breed to bad or stupid. There were many large dogs in this area that day. To my knowledge, there were only 3 smart dog owners other than myself, that brought our dogs close to the exit and started packing up when a slew of large dogs started entering.
It's like the idiot woman that brings 6 dogs to the dark park and you are allowed to bring 2! No toys, no throwing sticks, no food - only water, no horseplay, must control barking and must control aggressiveness. One would also think that the City would have designated an area for smaller dogs so they could run/play without being trampled.

There is no security personnel or paid supervised city employees to enforce the rules?.
