St. Petersburg Metro Explosion Kills 10 as Putin Visits City. MOSCOW — A bomb tore through a subway train in St. Petersburg on Monday afternoon, killing an estimated 10 people and injuring dozens more, government officials said.

The explosion occurred on a subway train traveling between the Technology Institute and Sennaya Square stations, according to the Investigative Committee, Russia’s federal criminal investigation agency.

At the time of the attack, President Vladimir V. Putin was a few miles away in St. Petersburg, his hometown and the country’s second-largest city and former capital, on official business.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility, and Mr. Putin said all possibilities were being investigated.

The bomb, a homemade device filled with shrapnel, exploded in the third car just after the front of the train had entered the tunnel, Russian news outlets reported.

CNN)An 18-year-old woman was killed and at least 22 people injured Thursday when a speeding car plowed into pedestrians in Manhattan's bustling Times Square, city officials said.

Police identified the woman as Alyssa Elsman, a resident of Portage, Michigan.
The driver of the 2009 Honda Accord -- Richard Rojas, 26, of the Bronx -- tested positive for PCP and told police that God made him do it, a law enforcement source told CNN.

The suspect, who suffered from "psychological issues," told police he expected officers to shoot him, according to the source.

Rojas has been arrested twice in New York -- in 2015 and 2008 -- for drunken driving, New York Police Commissioner James O'Neill said.
There is no indication the incident, which unfolded just before noon, was an act of terrorism, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio and other officials said. It is being investigated as an accident, a police official said. Charges against the driver are pending.

One of the hospitals treating the injured said four patients were in critical condition Thursday night. Two were in serious condition.

NYC Health + Hospitals Bellevue said it received 13 patients, 10 adults and three teenagers. The serious injuries included pelvic fractures, internal bleeding and head injuries.

Authorities from multiple agencies took Willie Cory Godbolt into custody in Brookhaven Sunday morning after they say he killed eight people, including Lincoln County Deputy William Durr, 36.
Mississippi Bureau of Investigation spokesman Warren Strain, in a news release, said the shooting spree began at about 11:30 p.m. with a domestic call at 2871 Lee Drive in Bogue Chitto.
Four bodies — three females and the deputy — were recovered there. The second crime scene was located at 1658 Coopertown Road in Brookhaven. The bodies of two juvenile males were located there.
The third crime scene was located at 312 East Lincoln Road. A male and a female were recovered at that location.
Strain said authorities are waiting on the notification of next of kin before releasing the names of the other seven victims.

He is believed to have had an argument with a group of 10 people in the village as they were drinking together at a barbecue night at their dacha (country house), before leaving for his mother's house to get a rifle.

The suspect then returned and killed "almost all of them" with one shot in the head each, he told investigators, as reported by Newsru.com.

The man made his last victim dig her own grave, TASS news agency reported, citing sources familiar with the investigation.

When the woman refused, she was also shot dead. Her body was later found in the trunk of a car.

So, so far, Scalise has lived and is in stable condition. The gunman was killed. Other people shot were a congressional aide, a lobbyist, and a couple of Capitol police officers.

I wonder if this will make the Republicans finally want to implement gun control, when it's their own lives on the line? Apparently, the gunman had a hundred-round magazine, he didn't need to reload once!
