I have problem downloading large video files from 1 to 2 gb or larger. Sometimes the download does not complete. Sometimes the file is corrupt. I have tried different browsers Firefox, google, Explorer and using Windows 8. I suspect it's Windows 8. Does anyone experience the same problems?

Depending on from where you are trying to download from. Try using jdownloader. Other than that I really don't know why it couldn't complete.

Check your computer settings. Maybe your computer goes to sleep and cancels the download.

I am not sure it applies but I have yet to hear anything positive about win8

it is a transitional OS similar to Vista in that and Vista sucked

My Vista works well but you are right there are many readings that says Windows 8 sucks.

Get a download manager. Google it. Some free, some trial, many good ones.

I dunno, maybe I'm missing something but explorer etc are web browsers, not file downloaders......I don't think I've EVER downloaded a file using a web browser because that's like using a ford mustang as a pickup truck or a garden tractor.

I use bitlord for bittorrents or mozilla for large files. But then again, I belong to a newscasting service that has its own built in downloader and it works just fine.

As for corrupt files, unless you are downloading from a reliable source, you'll get more of them than complete and clean downloads. Plus if you have noise on your line, or share it with a phone you'll also get incomplete downloads. As stated, if you computer goes to sleep in the middle of the download that too will corrupt the file. If the file is separated in to parts using something like RAR, there should be PAR files associated with the download and they contain information which should allow you to repair the downloaded file. I use autounpack to fix files and it works most of the time. But again, I rarely have corrupt files.....

I think it's Windows 8 and the recent browsers that work with it. I tried downloading large files (1-2gb) on my old computer with Windows XP and it works.

When you click on a link in a browser, regardless of OS, it initiates a download. A download manager takes over that process and ensures it doesn't lose data halfway through or get corrupted. It's called by the browser. Plus, most download managers can handle multiple streams at once to make sure files are downloaded faster, as well as have a pause/resume capability.

Like you Guyzer, I download porn in HD from pay porn sites and the files can over 2gb, some of those sites don't recommend download managers.

They don't recommend them in many cases because of the load they impose, but if they use stadnard download protocols most managers will work. I have downloaded 5GB files (Blueray quality) from Usenet without trouble using managers.
Did you say "gay porn sites" :blush2:

Ok, I will try FDM.

Thing is that I am near my usage allowance by trying different download methods. Wasting away bandwidth. :Crying2:

I am with Rogers and I get 150gb. Rogers doesn't offer extra usage as add on, you have to upgrade to a higher tier package. But I will call Rogers to let them know that Bell offers unlimited internet and see if they can match.

I tried FDM and it works. Thanks to you guys on the board. Wish I knew sooner. However, FDM won't work on www.RealityKings.com.

Rogers has a limit for each internet teir, but if you go over your limit you are charged per GB, up to a maximum of $50 per month. While that may sound like a lot, it essentially means you can downlaod unlimited amounts for a month for $50 extra. If you download a LOT, then it's cheaper than buying one of tehbigger packages. Or go with Bell and their unlimited. Rogers will match that soon.
