If I'm connected to Wi-Fi at home, if my phone uses my home computer's IP Address or not?

I am not very tech savvy, and I recently got a Samsung Galaxy S4 :)

Thanks everyone

No it doesn't. IP addresses comes from your location. Wi-fi from others. Just like using a proxy one.

each and every device on a network must have a separate ip address.
if two devices have the same ip there will be a conflict.

By allowing the network to assign the ip you reduce chance of conflict.

each device has a hard wired id called a MAC address and that can not be changed.
used in tandem with the ip address you now have a unique id.

The IP address allocated by wifi and most home routers is dynamic and a public address (192.168.0.X, for example). It is valid only as long as your device is connected, then given up if you disconnect or renegotiated if a timer (called a lease) is expired. The IP address people will see from outside your home is your ISP's assigned address for your home (which also tends to be a dynamic, not static IP address).

Thanks DR. Where have you been hiding lately?.

WELCOME BACK OLDGUYZER!!!

Thank you gentlemen. I had a self-imposed few months hiatus from hobbying due to too much work, and found little time to come on here and catch up. Hopefully the work will ease up just a little and I can resume both posting and hobbying.

I couldn't help noticing the less I hobbied the less I missed it, as long as work kept me busy, but eventually the lack of distraction (and a couple of very strong hints by a pretty lady) became too much to ignore.

Taking a quick look at the boards the last few days, I can't help notice changes (for the worse) on at least one of the others, but this place seems to be much the same. That's a good thing! :good:

Welcome back and I'm the same. My time is limited and only really use two boards, this and the red one. I prefer to post here because of the friendly environment. The red board has lots of info but their search engine is horrible. Other boards for me are irrelevant and serve no purpose.

I simply sent you an email asking how you were! Seriously though.....you think I"m pretty? :biggrin2:

What did his dirty email say :biggrin2:

Bet it wasn't what he said but how he said it. Bet Cardinal included some porno photos of Amish midget wrestling matches.

Which caught your fancy most, oldguyzer?

The little ladies mucking about in mud, or oozing oil?

Me? I go for the slippery action of oil pix.

:biggrin2:

Oh . . . by the way, welcome back oldguyzer
