bliss: i've tried to be patient and explain the error of your ways but you just can't see the forest for the trees.
You keep bringing up the fact that women are raped by people they know, that is irrelevant in this context. You keep bringing up women are raped in burkhas, that is irrelevant in this context.
By your (lack of) logic or common sense, you're saying that women should, in addition to dressing like a whore, walk in dark parking lots, stay away from well lit areas, walk through dark parks at midnight, drink to excess then do all of the above.....You are saying this because "some women are raped by people they know"....."women are raped while dressed in burkhas" etc......
So, go ahead bliss, write to the sun and advocate that women shoudl walk in deserted parking garages late at night, women should not stay in well lit populated areas after dark, and should dress like whores.....your reasoning since some women are raped by people they know, they should ignore all other hazardous areas....and specifically, you should post that sg should go for a walk on that beach alone at night, since, well, she'll be safe because she doesn't know anyone in that area and isn't wearing a burkha so she'll be perfectly safe.....

and do what I want too, like men......without the fear of being raped.......I should be able to

You should be able to but you can't, you know you can't. I know nothing about what really makes men rapists but if I had to guess there are different reasons. I have heard it said that rape is not at all about sex but about control and hatred. I'm sure that's true for many rapists and how the victims are dressed may not influence the rapist at all, but can anyone swear some rapists don't have a hate-on for women they perceive as being or dressing "slutty". I think the idea is to try an avoid places that make you an easy victim or attract attention to yourself when you are vulnerable.
Women obviously have to think about this all the time and that is sad but there are many places I, as a healthy male wouldn't feel safe alone either - basically any slum of a major US city late at night comes to mind for sure. Oh and I'd never volunteer to get the sacremental wine alone if Cardinal Fang's buddies were lurking about.
Blissful, you have to agree you would not walk along Driftwood (Jane and Finch) at 12 am wearing risqué clothing, holding a bottle of rum in one hand and a stack of 100's bills in the other hand without thinking you're risking your life or well being?? This scenario I believe would also be dangerous for a male.

Sorry to drop some heavy shit on you guys, but I've had a family member who was traumatized by a rape attempt which, thank God, I witnessed on my way to their house and stopped.
I nearly went to jail because I wasn't in my right mind at the time and nearly beat the bastard to death during the melee. (from what I remember I broke his nose, occiptal bones, zygomatic arch, and 3 ribs, while I broke several bones in my hand and a metatarsal on my right foot)
The guy ended up having priors and the fact that when the cops arrived they found a blade on him (concealed weapon), ended up with me getting excused for self defence.
But I digress.

Just give women subsidies for pepper spray and low yield tasers :biggrin2: jks

Don't bother baz, I (no offence intended) think she just doesn't have the IQ to grasp the nuances of what's being said here...you try, and try, and try to get her to understand but it just goes zooming over her head.
Bliss: you have the right to wear what you want, walk where you want, do what you want, with whom you want whenever you want. However, with those rights come responsibilities.....if you chose to ignore those responsibilities, that is no one's fault but your own.
People can make suggestions, voice their opinion, give advice, it is up to YOU to heed that advice, ignore it, or whatever.

I'm just glad I was there to stop that shit... before any real "contact" happened.
I've seen her struggle and get better through therapy, she's my cousin by the way, and now she's happily married.
However, I think I should see a shrink as well because I got some transference BS going on here.
Any time I see rape related subject matter, may it be in literature, movies, etc. I literally want to reach in the novel, movie, etc. and punch the fictional character.
And no, my family doesn't have abuse problems which my own feeling might stem from.
I went over this with the psychologist and psychiatrist my cousin was seeing at the time, and the pretty much said it's most likely because I feel guilty somehow for not being there on time.
Which makes sense, because if I was there probably a minute earlier, I could have prevented the whole ordeal by just being with her as she was getting home.
Anyways, back the the related matter.
I do believe women should consider the somewhat higher likeability that rapers gonna rape more readily when they have a explicit stimulus.
They should just be prepared, may it be a can of mace or a pinkstudded taser, or martial arts.
A lot of guys are ready to defend themselves, and in the process get fit. So why not women?
Part of my cousin's therapy was getting her confidence/power back and being sure of her self.
I suggested to her therapist that I wanted to take her to the MMA gym I go to, and let her learn self defence; I suggested taking Jujitsu.
She thought it was a good idea, so I did, and it did wonders for her recovery process.
Jujitsu being more dependent on leverage and technique than size and strength, fit her bill perfectly.
As a person who just started taking Jujitsu myself, it was fairly easy for a 5'4 105lbs girl to submit unsuspecting 5'11" over 200lbs guy (me) with a figure 4 and a RNC (Rear Naked Choke).
Those tiny arms seem to fit right into, under my jaw line... Felt like some sorta gremlin was choking me out from my back...
As some on stated, rape is much about domination/power.
