Release Cyntoia Brown from prison?

Obviously no. She not only killed him but his family and friends as well (Theoretically speaking)

She was raped at age 16 and was forced into sex slavery. I think we should distinguish between self defense and willingful murder. Clearly she was defending herself.

So was her life taken when she was forced into sex slavery? Does that count as her life being taken away from her?

Or is life taking only the actual physical death death of a person???

Both are serious business, no?

Questions to ponder....

Please read some of the background before passing judgement. She didn't have a gun, the client was a military sharpshooter and had a houseful of guns. He was acting strangely and she was frightened. 3rd generation sexual violence survivor, forced and trafficked at the age of 16. This is a just an example of what happens to juveniles in the legal system. I knew several girls that were incarcerated in adult jails then prisons from the age of 14 to 16. Their crimes ran the gamut from 3rd shop lifting strike to crimes of self defence violence who were facing 25+ to "never going to get out". It's unconscionable and just another example of the prison economy. Jails/prisons get more funding for juveniles while not providing separate facilities or more services.

No need to ponder. In the eyes of the law, the punishment for killing someone is different than the punishment for enslaving someone, and in the eyes of the law, she was deemed to have unnecessarily taken a life - hence her sentence.

Philosophize all you like. The law is the law. If you don't agree with the law, work to change it. Until then, obey it as written or suffer the consequences.

No doubt, she is suffering the consequences of her actions.

This is the justification for killing someone?

I think the prison system is very ass-backwards if you ask me. You see countless innocent people being put into prison and you see countless criminals who have done terrible things but doesn't spend even a day in prison (i.e. rapists, corrupt businessmen). And it's no thanks to the skyrocketing of private prisons that Trump and his fascist cronies support because it's more profitable to lock up an innocent unemployed black man rather than a politician who have been accused of countless acts of rape and sexual assault.

We live in a punishment driven society that's why. Instead of empathizing with each other and helping people who are in need we would rather see people locked up to satisfy our bloodthirsty vindictive desires. For instance, drug addicts and mental health patients - how many of them actually get the treatment that they need? Very few reach treatment facilities; most end up in prison locked up and abused by guards and how exactly would that help them? It doesn't; the prison system does absolutely NOTHING to help those who clearly need the help.

Back to the original story - You see parents murdering or abusing their disabled children and they never spend a day in prison. You see corrupt businessmen murdering exploited cheap labour workers overseas and all they get is a nice congratulations by society. Only 3% of rape cases are reported to count and even fewer rapists get the punishment that they deserve. But here a 16 year old girl who was FORCED into sex slavery and was RAPED by a much older man who had to defend for her life - yeah let's watch her rot in prison. Think about that for a second guys.

I find your response here funny to say the least.

You're a John correct? You see SP's on a regular basis correct? So technically you're doing something illegal. Yeah Damien, "the law is the law" - okay then drag your sorry ass to prison then because technically you've broken the law by seeing SP's.

Otherwise you're a bigass hypocrite, plain and simple.

Maybe it's just me but I could care less if a pedophile or child rapist gets killed in self defense... maybe then there's less of these pieces of shit polluting society.

Forcing a child into sex on the other hand is completely fucked up and is the atrocity that a lot of third world countries go through. To be able to have choice in saying who you want to have sex with is a privilege, a privilege that a lot of sex workers especially the trafficked ones don't have.

I dont know the full story behind this matter. However, lawful or not, if a pedophile or child rapist gets killed, good riddance. I remember someone was telling me that they didnt wake up and choose to be a pedophile or child rapist. Still no sympathy from me. Their actions have such horrible destructive consequences and destroyed many victims in the process. Unfortunately many of these pedophiles get a slap on the wrist compared to bank robbers.

Listen, 'dickless'

Clearly your fucking stupidity continues to rise to the surface at the most annoying of times.... a) I don't see underage escorts. b) the escorts I do see are in the industry because they want to be, and are in complete, independent control of their business - from the clients they choose to see, to the services they choose to offer and the prices they choose to charge. c) I don't abuse the escorts I see in any way, shape or form.

Am I breaking the law by paying escorts for sex? Yup. And no, I'm not ok with the law as written and choose to disobey it, which is my prerogative. And should I be arrested and charged, I am aware of and fully willing to face the consequences.

Seems pretty in line with what I posted above, and in no way makes me even remotely a hypocrite.

If I killed someone simply because I suspected they might possibly hurt me, and was then convicted of murder or manslaughter, then complained that my sentence under the law was unreasonable because I feel my fear alone was sufficient justification to take another person's life - then I'd be a hypocrite.

Asshat.

I didn't say I had any sympathy for the john. Clearly he must have known he was sleeping with an unwilling, underage and completely fucked up young girl. In the end, it worked out badly for him, so karma bit him hard in the ass.

That said, rape and pedophilia are not defined punishable by the death sentence under the law, and she chose to end his life. She was not coerced or tricked into doing it, she knew full well what she was doing even if she didn't fully understand what that choice likely meant. She's now paying for that decision. As they say, ignorance of the law is no excuse.

Even the extenuating circumstances were insufficient for the court and the parole board to grant her leniency, and they found little sympathy for her given she chose to shoot a defenseless, sleeping man rather than leave the scene and make an escape.
