Requirement To Pay / Canada Revene Agency

Ok well I gave them a call this morning, and some good news. Originally I was paying 30% each pay, but when I called and told them my story, they essentially cut it in half, dropping it down to about 18% a pay. I wonder if I call someone else, they will drop it even lower... hmm.. maybe I shouldn't push it too far lol

if you are still paying it a year from now, do that again. Once you've made an arrangement, then you keep to the arrangement for a while, the amount owing is reduced quite a bit. You can always redo the amount you still owe over a new period of time, with different monthly amounts. And don't worry too much about missing a payment, or reducing it from time to time, if you have to. As long as you have a good history with them, really all they care about is getting the money. And the people you are dealing with aren't like bill collection agencies. they have jobs, they don't work on commission, and I don't think they care whether you do it or don't do it. When you called to ask for a reduction, they would plug in the numbers and be able to give you something based on the policies they already have. They'll work with you, up to a point. :-Cool/"

You should call back and ask about getting the interest stopped. I can't remember if they do that or not. Also, about getting the GST applied, if you want it to be rather than getting the cheques from them. What you can do with 2 years worth of course is apply it directly to that 'debt' (if I can call it that lol). This will reduce that principle, so your total won't be as high and that reduces that interest. What you can do if they will stop the interest, is find out if they will also deduct the accumulated interest off the total.

You don't know until you try, and you won't get something unless you ask, just like you got it reduced from 30 to 18, they'd be happy to collect the 30, but you took the step to ask.

Well now I kinda have to pay the 18% because they are taking it out from my work's pay, so there is nothing I can do about it now. But paying 18% I can deal with, but I will keep your suggestion into account, Shadowsun, and call them in a few months or so, and see if I can get it reduced again. But for right now, I should stay on the straight and narrow, to see how this works
