Does anyone know much about this?

Just wondering, because I am paying a % of my pay, to pay back for some EI that I earned a couple years ago, that I guess I shouldn't have.

I have to pay 30% of my pay, but does anyone know if I call them, and ask to pay a lesser %, that I could do that? I know that if I do this, it would work out that I pay more in interest, but I would have more on my end.

The way I am thinking of it, is they are still getting money from me, so I'm just thinking they will agree to this. I just wanna ask here, before I call them this week.

Thank you

Buddy you can never win with the government but if you set up a meeting with them you can cry wolf and have payments reduce by 25 % max. Hiring a lawyer will set you back, not worth it.

Don't listen to him. He is a crook.

Explain that these payments are cutting into your hobby money and you need some extra cash. I'll write you a note if it will help. :wink2:

There's no harm in asking Ryan. Good luck!

The CRA are the biggest mobsters in the country. I'd rather deal with an Al Capone than the CRA!

lol Sarah :) I probably won't say that, but that is one of the reasons why I want a lower % LOL

Ok well I gave them a call this morning, and some good news. Originally I was paying 30% each pay, but when I called and told them my story, they essentially cut it in half, dropping it down to about 18% a pay. I wonder if I call someone else, they will drop it even lower... hmm.. maybe I shouldn't push it too far lol

Congrats on the deduction reduction.

Now how many months will you have to deal with the CRA squeezing blood from the stone?

Just be careful some other agent comes along, doesn't like the cut and freezes your accounts! I don't trust them one bit, leeches.

Yeah I hope that doesn't happen either. But I guess just as long as I'm paying something. And this way, with me paying less, I'm actually paying more in interest in the long run, so I would think they would be happier

Don't kid yourself, pal.

We may like the basics of our health care system, but we're happy to complain about the nuances of facilities, accessibilty, wait time and so forth.

Like you, we certainly reserve the right to hate the tax man . . . despite the fact that part of the taxes we collectively pay gets spent on a health system that ensures we as individuals won't go bankrupt if we get sick, or hurt in a serious accident.

As for speaking well of our government .... hell, we like to bitch about our politicians too.

Some of them we don't trust as far as we can shit.

Ok well this is a weird turn of events. When I called the lady at the CRA, she asked me if I had received any GST refund cheques this year, and I said no, which I haven't.. I didn't think I was going to get them this year. Well 1 day later (today), I come home from work, and what is waiting in my mailbox, but a GST refund cheque lol.

Waiting for the other shoe to drop, Ryan.

Was she calling to ask for the refund cheque back?

Well I called them yesterday. Usually you get a GST cheque every 3 months, starting in July, then October, January and the following April. But this is the first one I have received in about 2 years, and I had no idea it was coming

Becareful, it sounds like you are being set up!:wink2:

Primo, our health care system is good but as Art points out it does have it's service issues. Canadians complain about the waste i.e. the Liberal power plant debacle, federal Conservatives senate spending scandals, etc.....

The way I see it the unions have become the scape goats for waste but in reality it's the people at the top using the tax payers money like bandits and of course have the long arm of the CRA to carry out the muggings.

PS.... It's time to give Andrea Horwath and the NDP a shot!
