OMG, my dinner date just cancelled on me with the stomach flu! I'm all dressed up with my red high heels on and staring at my computer:writing:. Who can I call, Barbie is out of town again, I know if this fails I'm coming back here looking for a date!!!!

What does one do when the fun filled evening planned gets nuked by a rude uncaring virus? Does this virus not know how hard it is to find people at the last minute??

Ok time to make a call wish me luck, BRB maybe!

I'm here Melanie, don't bother calling anyone!! I will come pick you up and bring you anywhere your little high heel wearing heart desires!!

I'll drop my name in your hat if your phone call leads to no success.

Saturday night's alright for fighting
Get a little action in
Get about as oiled as a diesel train
Gonna set this dance alight
'Cause Saturday night's the night I like
Saturday night's alright, alright, alright

Oooops! Wrong thread!

Gee, Miss Melanie. So sorry to hear you got stood up. But I must say, dammit, you are a very resourceful lady.

Adventuresome too, posting here. Kudos to Dan for coming to the rescue, if that is indeed what transpired. Or perhaps some other lucky lad received that call you said you were going to make before that brb that never materialized.

Whatever the case, I trust you found a way to get those sexy red high heels out on the floor and set this dance alight, Cause Saturday night's alright, alright.

I think Dan beat us to the red heels, both Dan and Mel are not to be found!!

Well, you could be fortunate like me, and part way through your shift get a call from your 80 year old mother saying she needs to go to the hospital. So, have to cut your shift short so you can hang around in emerge for 5 hours, then babysit (or should I say geezersit) the rest of the evening...To the tune of coughing, wheezing, belching, dry heaving and 'I gotta pee'. Now I could do with a nice phone call for a fun evening...

Dude be thankful your mom is still alive and you can there for her in her time of need.

I would give anything to have those years back.

I'm with you brother on that!

As for me I am kicking myself in the ass.... I should've been here instead of watching Catch.44. I might have beaten sneaky Dan to the prize, dammit, now I have red high heels dancing in my mind!!

Well it's more the issue of having to deal with an 80 year old four year old, who can really act. When Sister 1 was on the phone, Mom was alert, fairly focused, and conversational. Once she hung up and had to be with Sister 2, and I, she became drowsy and bullheaded. After Sister 2 went home, I got the bullheaded, whiny, barfy version. It's just damned frustrating that when something goes on with her I'm the first one looked at. "I was at work, don't ask me why she's only eaten half a muffin and drank only a shot worth of water."

Seven years December 4, 2004, glad I was there for both.

Dave, your siblings should be doing more for sure and providing you with respite no argument there.

Remember, your mother brought you into this world and took care of you. It is an honour to do the same for her don't kid yourself.

Frail, ill and palliative seniors struggle with what is happening to them, some fear, some embrace, some suffer but they know who they can rely on. What for it's worth, I was my parents caregiver, never regretted a moment and am glad that I was there for them.

In the end, you will be too.

Dave, I put a hold on my life for a couple of years and have moved back in with my mother to take care of her to keep her out of a nursing home. She raised me for 18 years, this is the least I can do to make sure her last couple are comfortable for her. Is it hard? God damn right it is, but I would not have it any other way.
