A female friend I've known for decades is finally getting the separation she's been wanting from her husband. They've finally come to an agreement about the house, the children, property, money, support etc etc.
So she texts me and starts making fun of the fact that he finally signed the separation agreement and is now in his bedroom sobbing but she's dancing around and cranking the tunes. No matter what the situation is, he's probably feeling quite alone and abandoned right now as he is moving out at the end of the month, not being able to see the children everyday (under normal situations) and having to make a new home and beginning. My ire was with her sport that she was making of him during his time. I told her that no matter who wronged whom, this is a terrible time to be going through and making light of his emotional state was not fair; save it till he's out of the house at least.
I also told her that I'm fucking crazy about the social norm that women walk away with more than the man. I don't know how many times I've instructed friends (especially young ones) to get the pre-nup written to protect both parties. "Oh no man, she's not like that" I call bullshit and I've been right .... a lot. She told me about her mental struggles with him. Being in a loveless relationship. Being the bread winner etc etc.. Okay, but that still doesn't speak to his present state of mind.
She then spoke about finding out that he's been seeing someone and how she escalated to him about that and threw that relationship in his face the other night. "Well, you two were no longer intimate and or acting as a couple, you were just sharing a roof and in separate rooms. What's wrong with him having someone? Don't you have someone on the side that he doesn't know about, including fucking me twice?" I told her how much of a hypocrite she was. Her excuse was that he doesn't know about her indiscretions nor will she ever admit to it. I maintained my view of hypocrisy on her part. I don't think she liked that, but sometimes the truth hurts.
Back to walking away with more. She balked at that as well. Buuuuuut she has the house, the furniture, the children will remain with her, he is to pay child support etc etc. And he's the one starting from scratch. I told her to put the shoe on the other foot and see where her mental state would be.
I told her to drop the subject because it doesn't look like she'll ever get it. Too much hurt. Too much emotion. Too much ....
