What's wrong with praying, or seeking help from the divine?
Whatever one's belief system is... Be it rooted in religion, or based on spirituality... What is wrong with seeking answers, or hoping for help from sometjing more than ourselves?
I started defining my stance on religion vs spirituality vs creationism in the following way:
I've never had a crisis of spirituality, or a crisis of faith that there is something preternatural that happens around me. I subscribe to basic principals which fll somewhere between the east and the west in my beliefs.
I have absolutely had a crisis of 'church'. You see... I frequently have to explain that the Bible is a compilation of stories. Stories which were passed down through time verbally and then written. Written in a time where the written words, and abilities to write would be rare. Interpreted from long forgotten nuances and syntax... There's a reason your Bible is stamped with NIV, The Catholic Edition, The King James Version, etc. It is an interpretation and extrapolated story.
There is nothing wrong with this... As there is nothing wrong with saying you do not believe in a higher power. There is nothing wrong with saying you don't know.
Truthfully... Outside of faith in things we have lived, learned and experienced... How would anyone know a thing about something outside of themselves.
We have moved into a time where there is instant gratification if one takes it... But do we really need to microwave dinner rather than putting it in an oven? Is it wrong to ask for something to come more easily?
Ahhhh shit! See what you've done?! You've mentioned prayer in a title and now my philosophical mindset has started swirling with existential questions and revelations.
P. S. Did Jesus not die to absolve all people (not just Christians) from their sins? Did he not promote acceptance in one's brokenness? Hmmm... Just for the Christians out here.
