Made with Love

Storage Wars

You notice how now the prices they are paying for the lockers are going up. They use to pick up most lockers for under a gino and now more and more bidders are stepping up. YUP!

They've complained about it at one of their "round tables" Mind you I never heard any of them buying a locker and paying with "an italian guy AND a camaro"

Barry Weiss was inserted into the show to be comic relief. The guy doesn't need the money.

I love watching Dave and Darrell going at it, although I think they are all good buddies and ham it up for the camera.

^^^^^ I wouldn't be so sure about that....there's some genuine animosity there. Same as Dave and Jarrod, they've almost come to blows a few times and believe me, if I was Jarrod? I would have dropped that prick on his head....

It's kind of a gay premise (the show) but can be entertaining......Same as Auction Hunters, those guys "seem" to be making a killing but they always give a caveate: that most of their lockers end up busts. Same as these guys, you have to wonder just how much good stuff they actually get.

You also have to realize that you have to have deep pockets (at least in the states) and be able to throw $1000.00 out the window without batting an eye. They all (except Barry) have a business to run where they get their inventory from these lockers. Think of all the thrift shops and their inventory. It has to come from somewhere.

But with all that being said I know a guy up here whose summer job is garage saling. He hits all the local garage sales (in the summer there's as many as 30 on saturday) then twice or thrice a year he goes to the flea market in Barrie and sells it all at a profit. I'm told he makes about $50K doing this (and spends the winter in FLA with the proceeds).

I don't know about the locker laws up here. There was an ad in the local paper about a storage unit that needed to be paid by x date or the contents disposed of. I recall the wording indicated that the contents would be thrown out, not sold by auction. I also know someone who, about 5 yrs ago, had a storage unit full of tools and fell behind in the payments and the owner seized the contents. He was a fucking idiot because he literally had about $5000 worth of tools and equipment that he walked away from.....(and his back rent was only $200.00 idiot!).

One interesting point that gets brought up from time to time is the amount of cash that is found inside the units. In one they found $3000.00 in cash. The reasoning is that a lot of old timers don't trust banks then what happens is they run short of money, then once you're delinquent, you can't get in your locker so you can't get the money to pay for the locker.

I thought about getting into it too but again, you have to have a pretty hefty bankroll before you even think about it......

I prefer watching Auction Hunters myself. It would be fun to see a show pitting Ton and Allen against the Storage Wars crew trying to out bid one another.

https://www.spike.com/full-episodes/pm8678/auction-hunters-the-real-thing-season-1-ep-105

The thing is, Allen and Ton never overbid for a unit. They set a price and let it go if it goes over their max. They keep their emotions out of it.

You have to wonder though why they never run into each other. They're all located in the same area...maybe that's why Allen and Ton go all over the country instead of just focusing on southern Cali?

JJF: the only problem is that link is all in the USA. Unless you're familiar with an area so you can flip the items for quick cash, you're stuck with bringing the stuff back here and I don't know about taxes and duties when you cross the border with it.

I tell you, we have a shitload of storage facilities up here and I check the paper religiously and have only ever seen one notice about one locker.......I think the laws are different up here, just a feeling I have.

Here's a place that lists their Canadian Sites/auctions:

Here's one unit for sale on evans...they have it selling online with a video too lol

LOL here's one in Hamilton where you write your bid on a piece of paper and can only bid once! LOL what a joke!

You are right about the duo not over bidding. I was also reading that Ton and Allen are also actors. Ton supposedly starred on some wildlife show, I'm not sure how true this is but I still find Auction Hunters entertaining.

it's possible, but hell, isn't everyone in southern california an actor? I mean, aren't all waiters actors? hehehehe I mean look at Chris Angel, he's an actor playing a magician in a sitcom.....

The Picker Sisters

Another choice for hillbilly cable show dealing with junk/antiques. It has the advantage of hotter people

Remember all the real estate flipping shows that were on? They rode the bubble (caused?). Now they are all but gone.
This is Flipping for Profit 2.0

Are you talking about the bubble that burst in 1990? That was just nuts...I worked with a guy who put $5,000.00 down on three houses at a new development and then sold the contracts 6 weeks later for a $10,000.00 profit on each.......

I think this buying of storage units is more of a gamble though. I personally think it's pretty rare to find a score in one...like the time that super dave was sure he had a stradavarius worth millions....turns out it was a chezch knockoff worth $100.00.

Yes Tboy. I have to get better on my grammar and spelling  :na: :)

saling is a slang for people who go to garage sales.....like "bargain hunting", "grocery shopping" etc.

A lot shorter and sweeter than saying "his summer job is going to garage sales and buying stuff"........
